I went back to Blackberry. I like android, it is cool and flashy. The Eris battery is gimp and the phone lags. Annoying. My Blackberry texts faster and never lags. The charge holds for multiple days. I will eventually go to a touch screen phone again, but I am going to wait until they have better battery life.

Good luck with that. We get about 2-8 (no exaggeration) blackberry phones per week that need replaced or discarded. Blackberry has really went to shit on manufacturing their phones. Seriously more broken-down BB's than ANY other phone. In fact, no other brand even comes close to that number. It's kind of sad actually because the BB OS is pretty good, especially the email and BB messenger. Hopefully they'll get their shit together, but we'll see

This is sad to hear. I havent used one in a few years but BB used to be one of the few brands you could count on to have incredibly well put together hardware.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going back. I agree that there are definitely some faults with the phone, but someday we'll get a phone without these problems, at least I hope...

Even the best of phones lag and will have problems... and it's all about a preference about what you can tolerate and what you want. I think this post wouldn't have been so bad if he was saying goodbye. I can see why some people are getting offended. Either way, lets try to not add fuel to the fire. If you find yourself wanting to say a negative thing, just past the thread on. JMO.

+1. The OP makes oft repeated points about experience with the Eris.

The first two weeks I had my Eris, also having an 8330, had me doing comparisons in many areas. Battery life was the most prominent to me, having been used to a couple of days between charges most of the time.

However, the Eris won big time in too many other areas for me to ever consider going back to the Blackberry.

But, to each their own.. sometimes the old tried and true will just pull a person right back to a sort of comfort zone, especially if they've had to hassle a bit with the newer device.

Nice post Frisco. I too returned to my BlackBerry, but I like Android alot. The fact is I am not a huge touch screen fan. My Eris can do so much more than my BlackBerry, that's a fact. The most important thing to me are voice, text and email. To me, the BlackBerry does a better job in those areas but others may disagree. It is obviously a personal decision. I am sure I will be back on Android at some point, once in a while I switch back but I always end up on that physical keyboard. This is a great forum and I continue to come in here every day and follow threads, good luck to everyone.

When questioned about my choice of the Eris over my 8330, the first thing that came to mind was the screen, web browsing experience; no contest.

Android is another animal as compared to most RIM stuff, perhaps Storm excluded which, in my mind, appears to be an effort on the part of those folks to snag some of the Android customers back to Blackberry.

Yes web and media on android blow BB away, but having push email from practically any account, yahoo messenger, g talk etc running in background not crushing battery plus txt, all going to one inbox (or separate if you prefer). Plus the hard keyboard BB's are hard to beat in the battery dept. Dinc and storm run neck and neck on battery, curve or tour blows either phone away if that's important to op. I'm not giving up my dinc for a BB, I just understand that someone who txt a lot would be appalled, by the battery life of a touch screen phone.

I think that the battery differences are to be expected, given the Android's superior offerings in the web/media/display areas; Blackberries are about text-based functions, more than anything else (again, with the possible exception of the Storm).

Without a doubt, check app processor usage, touch input, swype, etc use slot of processor. Something a hard kb phone doesn't contend with. Plus having all the data compressed by rim helps too. BB OS is a dinosaur, but a very functional one media wise an Eris will blow the storm out of the water. Fun stuff is an after thought on BB.

Yep. I used a Blackberry Pearl once, and the text messaging and email functions were incredibly good, and quick. But as soon as you start getting into the multimedia functions, things start getting hairy. I didn't anything great about the media player, and web browsing was more of chore than anything and could really bog down the phone (could be that the phone hardware itself is out of date, but so is the Eris compared to it running a very modern OS like Android). I found that the Eris can manage all of these fairly well. It also doesn't cripple itself as soon as it starts playing music.

By no means are Blackberries horrible phones, but it wasn't for me. As I said, the texting and email functions are excellent. If your big into texting, I would definitely say a Blackberry is much better. But I'm not big into the whole texting thing. I send maybe 100 a month. But I do make many posts on many forums with it (and Tapatalk makes posting on this site much easier). And since the web browser in Android is far superior, I'm happy with my Eris. And after buying an extended battery, I have a hard time running my battery empty by the end of the day.

I'd have to say that the first smartphone that was really accessible to the masses was the Palm Treo. It was easy to use and extremely functional. Since then I have seen the smartphone market mature into what it is today. I tend to empathize with the OP regarding Curve vs Eris. Blackberry has pwned the smartphone market for a while now by building solid, intuitive and reliable smartphones. Except the Storm IMO. Android is still a fairly new player and a WIP. But with the manufacturers pushing performance and features, and a rapidly evolving OS, Android should soon become what the Curve was and still is. A smartphone as accessible to Joe Consumer as it is to the corporate shirts and power users alike. Just watch out for those iDisciples of the Apple. They'll try to brainwash ya.

Well that's a new one.

I miss the battery on my Nokia E63. That thing could last for days and still only be half way discharged. It was ridiculous. Since I no longer can use it, I just left it on without the SIM card, and jeez, it sat there for 2 weeks before the battery died since the cell phone part was disabled. And the screen never actually turns off, just the backlight. Nokia really knows how to make efficient phones.
