Buying Nexus One on T-Mobile

Is there no way to get a Nexus One subsidized on T-Mobile any more?

I'm due a phone upgrade shortly and I'd be very interested in a Nexus One, but I don't see spending $500 for a phone.

I plan on staying with T-Mobile anyhow, so it'd be silly to buy a non-subsidized phone.

Why wouldn't I just wait for, say, the Samsung Gravity S and get that for much cheaper (hopefully) with a subsidy and contract renewal?

What are my options here?

As long as you can afford it upfront, the Nexus One unsubsidized is cheaper over a 2 year period, gets all updates first, has an LED flash, has a better developer community, and has the flexibility of being contract free...

Seems like an easy choice to me

If I was waiting for the next big thing I would wait for an EVO type device on T-Mobile...

How is it cheaper over 2 years?

Right now, I'm on Family Time 700 for $59.99, plus $10 unlimited family texting.

If my price drops because I have an unsubsidized phone and if it's less over 2 years, sure, I'm up for that, but I didn't think that would be the case with the family plan, would it be?

You asked for reasons you might get the Nexus One straight up. You didn't say anything about already being on a family plan

If you cant see any of the other reasons though as compelling enough to get a Nexus One I'd probably go with the next big thing as well...

I looked and it seems as if T-Mobile does offer a $49.99 unsubsidized family plan, but, while my phone is due an upgrade, I don't think my plan is up for renewal. Anyhow, with a 2nd phone on the account, even with the $10 discount, it still is a lot more expensive.

Too bad T-Mobile doesn't offer the Nexus One unsubsidized.

Hopefully, a good, comparable phone will be offered shortly as a subsidized option by T-Mobile.

If I could get a $179 Nexus One and re-new my existing family plan for 2 years, I'd do that tomorrow.

I tried this, they won't let you. That's only for new, single plans.

The *only* way to get an N1 right now for a line that's part of a family plan is to buy it outright, whether new from Google or eBay/Craigslist.

Right, and at that point, I'm probably just better of waiting on some other phone to come out that's close and get that with the subsidy.

Its $179 for new sign ups. $279 for existing customers. Both with two year contracts. I bought it outright so my bill will be $20 a month cheaper with no contact. Its cheaper in the long run.

I saw a commercial for the T-Mobile Garmin phone the other day. It runs android. I don't know of anyother phones coming
out for T-Mobile anytime soon.

Yeah me neither, but I'm sure the next big thing is coming soon enough. There's no way the other cell phone manufacturers are going to sit by and let the EVO 4g destroy them for too long and no way HTC is gonna sit back and let the other phone manufacturers catch up that easily. In the end it's the customer that wins!

In the meantime I am more than happy to sit on my no contract Nexus One until T-mobile gets a 4.3' screen + Stock android + Kickstand

Just thought of another factor.

If I get an unlocked Nexus One from a source other than T-Mobile, can I continue to use my $5.99 T-Zones plan for full internet?

If I get an Android device from T-Mobile, they'll force me onto the Android data plan (which I see many people who are long time customer and call retentions are getting for $15/mo).

If I get the $179 subsidized Nexus One, do they force the Android data plan on my then?
