Well after removing the shit apps from Sprint (except Nav), it runs tons better.

Yeah that was the first thing i did i removed all the ugly looking sprint apps and others that dont need to be there. But we all know that customs roms are the way to go.

I'm assuming because it says no wipe required, it looks like your old setup... but I've never flashed a Modaco android rom... first android phone...

anyways, I'm booting up now... we'll see what happens...

When you reboot into recovery mode you will see the nandroid backpup. Also after rooting flash a recovery image, alot of people forget that step and root and go i did it.

I rooted, installed the recovery image, and installed the Modaco ROM just fine running Win7 64

My install must be weird, because I just got vanilla android. Dont mind me

The Modaco ROM does not contain Sense, its just stock vanilla android

Please do not give out false information.

The Modoco ROM contains everything that you have now, plus some added programs and tweaks. When you first boot, you will hardly even tell anything happened until you do some digging around.

Weird, I guess my install is borked. Just got vanilla android with no Sense. I have amended my previous post

There are no dumb answer i was working and mesa sorry. No you do not go back to stock android you stay with Sense UI. Madaco is using the sprint rom just added some tweaks and you are not wiping the phone so no lost in pictures text it looks the same as you left but it is not. There is a easy step by step but i forgot where it is. Its over by xda.

2. Does it get rid of the HTC supplied messaging app?
3. Does it dramatically improve battery life?
4. Does it fix all previously known bugs, for instance dropping mobile internet connection status for no reason?

I'm not running this personally, but I can answer your questions:

1. Is it a faster more stabe rom

Time will tell. It shouldn't be any less stable as it doesn't replace the current software, just adds to it. Though there's no technical reason for it to be considerably faster, lots of users are reporting simply rooting the phone and removing some bloatware makes for a significant speedup. This still could be the 'this is so damn cool!!111zomg!!' placebo effect, but my rooted phone does seem a lot faster and more stable.

2. Does it get rid of the HTC supplied messaging app?

Nope, it's still there with all of it's flaws. Since this is a binary app included by HTC (ie we don't have source code to recompile it), someone will either have to a) write a custom Messaging app that integrates with Sense properly (unlikely), or b) wait for HTC to release it's fixes, then incorporate them into the custom ROMs (more likely)

3. Does it dramatically improve battery life?

4. Does it fix all previously known bugs, for instance dropping mobile internet connection status for no reason?

Probably a no to both of these - again since it's not replacing any software, only augmenting it. It's still the same Hero with all it's quirks, just made better by rooted software and more open software choices. What probably will increase your battery life is removing some of the stock Sprint / HTC applications you don't use that are always running in the background. Fewer processes = less CPU cycles used = longer battery times.
