Don't know about anyone else but this was huge news to me. Just went to my local sprint store to check out the EVO and feel jealous. After talking to the sales person and expressing this jealousy, she asked what phone I had and when I bought it. When I told her I've had the hero since Oct, she smiled and informed me that I most likely was a Premier Customer and that I would be able to upgrade this Oct!! I told her that I thought to be premier, you had to be a customer for ten years. She then told me that if you have a data heavy plan, like the unlimited data plan, and have made payments on time for 3, yes, 3 consecutive MONTHS, you are now a premier customer, and can upgrade your phone EVERY 12 MONTHS! that is huge news for us hero owners. though I do love my hero, just thinking about having the beautiful EVO in just 4 short months makes my day, my week, my month and my year! Ok i'm done, just thought everyone should know.

I believe that most Hero owners are previous Instinct owners (Released June 2008) and executed this 12 month refresh option when the Hero came out (Released Oct 2009). I just hope Sprint doesn't drop this promotion in September now that more and more smartphones are coming to the market.

But, I've been watching the EVO forums and it seems their 2.1 Sense UI isn't much better off than the latest 2.1 Sense UI on the Hero. Although some issues just go away when you have a faster processor, right?

I'm hoping Sprint puts a 3.7inch snapdragon or better processor phone (like the Incredible) running Android 2.2 on their network before the end of the year. After all, most of us are not in a 4g area anyway, and won't be for at least another 12 months or so which is when we can then get our next 12 month refresh to 4g.

As for me, 4.2inches may be impressive, but I'm not sure if it is really practical for me. In fact, I've been making a hit list of things that might probably sway me away from the EVO.

- Bluetooth Stereo Headset cutting out (STILL)
- No Trackball or equivalent. (On screen arrow keys -- YUK)
- No green Call or red End Call buttons.
- No Lockscreen image on the EVO.

Getting a new new phone every 12 months is an option for Sprint Premiere Customers. To become a Sprint Premiere customer, you only need to have had an "everything plan" for at least 6 months. It's not any special promotion, so don't worry, all of us who dumped the Instink last October will get to renew this October. That having said, I will give it awhile before jumping to the next phone. The Hero is great, but who the Hell wants a phone you can't carry in your pocket for fear of dust inside the screen because of shoddy build design?

By October, if there are any issues with the EVO, they will be well reported on here. The only reason I bailed so quick last October was because the Instink was a ridiculously falsely marketed phone which barely delivered on ANYTHING Sprint made it out to be. That coupled with Sprint promising upgrades and apps for an entire year (apps of which were never delivered) I opted for something, anything different.

I feel like the fact that we've been with sprint for almost 11 years is kinda worthless now. I used to feel good walkin in there and seeing the SP next to my name. Now all you people get it. Damn it man.
I'm with you, Sixxx. I've got ten years with Sprint and want to get special treatment. Now I'm treated the same as someone walking in off the street!

In all fairness, I believe every company should treat all of their customers as if they've been loyal for 10+ years, even if they haven't bought anything yet. Why? Just great business practice in my opinion.

How did I not know this about Sprint?

I knew I was a Premiere Customer, but I had no idea about the 12 month updgrade timeframe. I still thought it was 2 years and I just got my Hero in January and no one told me. Do you still get the same deal as if it had been 2 years?

Yep, only you get to give the phone back and tell 'em to eff off if you wait 2 years before doing the upgrade!

But what happens after you get the evo and then they announce another sprint android phone thats suppose to be even better and is coming out soon?

Exactly.

To some (many)...their phone is a "status symbol". They feel like they just HAVE TO have the "newest and latest". Six month old technology is six months old, and therefore "outdated" to some.

As long as the phone works fine, does what you want and expect, and you are satisfied with it....why throw money away simply to be a part of the "newest and latest" crowd?

Okay so I just found out about this update. I'm on my parents account, but I've been on it for more than 5 years. I'm pretty sure they pay the bill on time and I know we have the everything plan. I bought my Hero last February but whenever I checked my eligibility, it said I wasn't eligible for the full update until 12/1/2011. So does it only apply to the "main" account holder?

The primary line is able to get the $150 update credit every 12 months, and the other lines every 24 months.

If your parents have no gripes, there is no reason why your line cannot be made the primary line so you will qualify for the update sooner, that is unless your parents need to update the phones they have.

They can also use another lines update to do an update on your phone. The Sprint store just rearranges things for 1 day and does the update, and you get your new phone with the upgrade price.

Not true... and I understand your work around there with switching the primary line to receive the discount.

Just like the NEW CUSTOMER pricing that is offensive to EXISTING customers, I have never failed to receive the FULL discount for a new handset when upgrading. I've accomplished it various ways. They just aren't going to GIVE it to you, you have to work at it. BUT... calling CS and asking for account retentions usually does wonders! Be nice, but insist. Call back if you don't get what you want. I've been with Sprint since they came to NY and their plans have made it impossible to leave. That said... They really are accommodating if you get the RIGHT person on the phone. Sometimes only drawback might be their Mail in Coupon Discount crapola! I like BB for that INSTANT discount, but if you get the price you want, what really is there difference.

Good Luck!

Happy Trails!

We've had our account for almost 11 years, I got my grandparents to make mine the primary line a few years ago specifically so I could get a new phone every year. It's great.

As far as the dust, i have a hard case(cheapo from ebay) will that guard against getting dust under the screen? I assume the dust is getting in there from the sides of the phone somehow, or maybe under the buttons on the front?
