Nokia Pc Suite contacts to Desire

i had a nokia n78 and just bluetoothed all my selected contacts from the n78 straight to the desire, everything worked like a charm, the desire knew exactly what to do with them.

i then sold my nokia and recently did a factory reset of my desire. i was worried about losing my contacts and noticed that none of the contact numbers were stored to the sim card but only on the phones memory.

you can backup the numbers to the sim but only one at a time which is a pain in the arse when uv got over a 100 contacts.

i just used the htc sync software on my pc to synch the contact numbers with outlook and then exported them to google online which works really well. everytime you store a new number it synchs with ur online account and vice versa, so the days of swapping old sim cards to ur new phones and copying the numbers onto the phone are over. :D

another way would be to export from pc suite to csv (go to contacts in the app, select them all and go to file, export in the menu) then upload them to gmail (providing you have one).

They wont be on your phone per-se but you can access them still

Thank you but what if you are not able to get the internet as I was this morning. How would I access them?

If they are on my phone I could call them as I did with one of my regular callers, whose number I knew, this morning.

If you're using gmail, when you set up your phone, it pulls all your contacts to your phone.

In the settings they appear as google contacts (not phone contacts) but they are still cached (or stored) on your phone - in the phone book.

You dont need internet access to access your phone book but you will not be able to synchronise any changes to your phone book until you have a connection.

Hope this clarifies.

I have a Gmail account but only use it "Market" on my Desire; reluctant to get too much involved with another email address on top of those I already have.

However if it is the only way to get my contacts on to my Desire I guess I will have to learn how to upload the csv, which I have produced, to Gmail and from there on to my Desire.

I hope the process is simple.

They will be on your phone and google. changes on one are reflected in the other. But only if you enable sync on the phone, or manually sync regularly.

And if you ever factory reset, it'll reload your contacts to your phone ;)
