Hi guys,

first time posting on here but been following everyones advice and found it really useful but I have a bit of a query im hoping someone can help me with...

I've noticed that the Internal memory of my Desire seems to filling up even though im not adding new files/downloading any new apps... Im using wi-fi several times a day to check emails, update friendstream etc... but there seems to be no major correlation with the memory increase.

As a guide memory usage has gone from 72mb to 82mb in the last 5-7 days

Is this normal? any suggestions what may be causing it or how i can clear out any files that may be accumulating? Obviously concerned as internal memory is limited as it is and if this continues it wont be long til the phone fills itself up!!

A system tends to accumulate things over time. How long have you had your Desire?

Try downloading Astro, it's a file manager. Look for files and folders related to apps that you no longer have, and delete them. When you uninstall apps, Android usually keeps the folders, in case you download it again or if it has related files such as a cache.

I've had mine since about 3 days after it was released in the UK, and I've got 82mb of internal memory used. I have only a few apps installed, and other things similar to how you use yours.

Thanks for the feedback... my only issue is the rate of the internal memory filling up - as I said nearly 10mb in a week and non of this is through anything actively downloaded

I do have the rss wiget in use but very rarely update it - I cannot find where this stores data using astrofile which i already use...

Just wondered if this was unique to me or a common trait of Android....

I would like some help too, i dont think that its my app cache is the problem, i was trying to download N.O.V.A 3 (takes up 1.59 GB) and i was deleting and uninstalling updates until i had 1.70 GB free memory, when i tried to download it after, it said that i dont have enough memory (insuficient memory space in device internal storage), so i opened settings, only to see that somehow my memory dropped from 1.70 GB to 270 MB. Can someone help me please????!!!

You might do better posting in a different part of the forum: this section is for the original HTC Desire from 2010, so not many people visit it now.

I don't know why your space will have filled up, unless the Play Store partially downloaded the app before deciding it was not going to have enough space. Clearing app caches might help if that is what happened.

In any event, 1.70 GB free will not be enough to install a 1.59 GB app. The Android OS has to keep some storage free as "working space" (for caching temporary files etc) or else the system and apps would become unstable. So there is a minimum free space defined by the manufacturer, and if installing an app would bring you below that it will refuse to install. Because that minimum is a parameter set by the manufacturer it varies between devices, but I can't think of a single device in the last few years where I've heard of it being less than 200 MB, and I've read that Samsung often require 500 MB free. So 110 MB over the size of the app is almost certainly not going to be enough.
