Not sure when this happened, but I remember my phone got hot one day when I added a sportstap widget. It got so hot I had to remove the widget. My wife noticed something weird on the back cover.

Look at my attachments, has this happened to anyone else?

My friend's phone got way too hot to touch after putting in a Seidio battery and let it charge for the night.

The phone was frozen(software) when she woke up and SO HOT that she couldn't touch it with her hands. Ever since, I'm pretty sure it keeps trying to overcharge the battery and superheating the phone. It'll break eventually.

Dang, where is Onion when you need him. He could have explained to us that this could not possibly have happened, and used lots of big words to explain why... ;) (yep, only 'old timers' on the board understand that reference).

I've had my phone get so hot that I didn't really want to hang on to it, but it wasn't THAT hot. Just for the fun of asking, was this a factory battery, or 3rd party?

i remember that thread getting kinda 'heated' (sorry couldn't help it ;)) something about his degree in thermodynamics :p

anyway.. i have heard of phones getting hot but never hot enough to warp the casing. if i were you i would return it to verizon immediately. batteries are normally safe but they can be dangerous especially when they are right up against your face

edit: just curious, did you happen to look and see how hot the battery was?

Its the factory battery. I don't know it only got this hot when I ran that one widget, which was weird. I know it gets hot when charging, but not this hot. I started using the TempMonitor app and set it to warn me if it got to 40 degree C, which was the recommended max temp. So far not even close to that.

I actually liked also with it did to the cover, but that folded area is actually the paint on top of the cover. Which right now I noticed is beginning to chip. Just placed an order to replace the cover.

And no no where else did this occur, just the areas on the pictures.

What the heck does the INSIDE of the battery cover look like???

Ouch!

Was it a factory battery, or was it after-market.

Good thing it wasn't in your pocket, the song lyric "chestnuts roasting on a open fire" comes to mind.

-Mike

Surprisingly, there was nothing wrong with the inside of the cover. And this is same factory battery which came with the phone.

there is a coating on the outside of the battery covers shell that is sprayed or dipped on to provide that snazzy rubber like feeling. the plastic that the actual cover is made of has a higher temperature resistance then the thin coating on the outside of it. so it transferred the heat to the coating and the coating shriveled.

Yes thats what it looks, cause the outside film is chipping on one side...is there an advantage of this coat? to be honest i'm not a fan of the rubber/silicone feeling :)

It is strange (to me at least) *where* it bubbled!
I know there is a section inside the back cover that is a bit more *rough* right over the battery, but I would think if the heat source that did this was the battery it would be a little closer to the position of the battery.

Maybe the *path* to the battery?? I am more curious than anything else!
