*** Official Motorola Droid X Pre-Release Thread***

Nice!!!!

So, does that mean it is going to come with swype preinstalled? :)

yup!

Keyboard: Just like with the CLIQ XT, Motorola preloads Swype. However, we also noticed a "multitouch keyboard" option. Oh yes, you heard us. When we held down two letters simultaneously it recognized both. We could really go on and on about how excited we are about this, but just check the video below of it in action.

Now they are saying 4.4" screen.

i know right, crazy eh! this device is a monster and i'm all over it. my first droid device! bye bye blackberry tour!

Screen: Apparently the Droid X has a 4.4-inch, FWVGA 854 x 480-resolution screen, though we couldn't confirm that on the device itself. Regardless, it was super crisp and the capacitive screen was mighty responsive to taps and multitouch gestures. Our one concern is the mirrored trim around the screen -- it makes the whole face of the phone extra glossy.

It looks...pretty big O-o
I know large screen but it looks enormous in her hands.

Now to decide. Galaxy S or Droid X? ;) *goes to other thread*

To me this isn't even a contest anymore the Droid X is the best phone I have seen to this day. I will buy the X when it comes out, I am sure the Galaxy S will be awesome as well, but this sealed the deal for me.

I take a lot of pictures of my kids to send to my family and this might be a deal breaker. I guess Motorola didn't learn their lesson from the big camera failure on the Droid.

Camera / Camcorder: The Droid X has a 8-megapixel camera, and records 720p video. But here's the thing about the camera: you have to tap to focus and it doesn't refocus until you actually snap the picture. In addition, the camera button on the phone was super stiff, so when we went to shoot a pic the entire thing shook and blurred the image. You can see what we are talking about in the gallery below. As for video recording, it was a bit laggy while we were shooting at 720p, but the video plays back smoothly, and in our opinion, crisper than the EVO 4G. Nevertheless, as you can see in the clip below, the white balance keeps on changing and the exposure fluctuates.

The Stiff button maybe due to the newness of the phone though?
The focus though, does that mean you'd need to keep tapping the screen to stay in focus if it was a moving target?

This has to be the worst kept secret in the history of phones! love it. I noticed that it is not as wide as the Evo which i feel is better in terms of ergonomics, it will be much harder to hold a wide phone than a long on IMO!!

I'd say the iPhone 4 was one of the worst kept secrets ever with people losing prototypes in bars and others being taken to court for extortion and all. :D

At any rate, this looks like my next phone if motorola can get the kinks out before release. Really glad I took my Incredible back now. :)

awwwwww yeah!

droid-life.com

Merch and POP elements do change on Sundays, I'm surprised at the Monday launch, though.. VZW likes Thursdays for some reason..

That's probably what I will end up doing. The next issue is that we already have 5 lines on our Verizon family plan. My sister is going to be taken off and pay for her own eventually, now that she has graduated from college, but I'm not sure if it will happen before July 19th.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have more than 5 total lines on a Verizon account? I don't mean to get off topic, so feel free to PM me rather than waste other's time on this thread.

You can have as many lines on an account as you wish- you are limited to 5 lines per family plan though.. The only way around this is to make it a business account

I have an Incredible already on order (due the 29th oth June) but I ALREdY KNOW I am gonna ditch it for the Droid X. I am too pumped about the big screen, and I think a Motorolla will be more durable in the long run.

So my dilema. Use the Incredible until the 19th and then turn it in? Or turn it in and pre-order a droid? Does anybody know how long the 30 return policy turnover time is? Could I turn in into a store if I ordered it online?

The 19th seems SOOOOooooo far a way!!!! I was SOOOOo hoping the fathers day rumors were true. sigh...

yes you can return to a store if you ordered online, as long as it was VZW and not Best Buy, Wirefly, etc.

I presume that I should be able to pre-order as a new line on an existing acct correct? I have some creative things happening with my work cell number and a new line for a personal phone that I have to contend with. :)

Correct- can-do no problem

Well. All I know is I'm not due for a upgrade til next year, so ill have to open up a third line to get the discounted price. Then port the phone to my existing number. I can do that right? Then just don't ever use the 3rd line?

Yup, can-do

Of course you can, but you'll still have to pay the monthly service on the 3rd line for the duration of it's contract. Cheaper to just pay retail.

No.... $10 add-a-line x 24 months = $240. Add in $200 subsidized cost, and you got $440. We all know it'll be over $500 full retail...

So the whole "Droid now does E-mail Exchange"...what exactly does this mean? MAdigital or anyone with the X care to answer? Does anyone know if both the Droid 2 and Droid X will have it?

Honestly, I think Droid 2 will have Froyo- I think thats what the Exchange blurb means, seeing as Exchange is a major feature of Froyo..

edit: Looks like Engadget is saying the same thing

The day before iPhone 4 goes on sale....nicely played Verizon :)

ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!!!!!!!! :D
