Root Eek! P3 Kernel - Abysmal battery life.

I'm trying out Kangerade 1.0 right now. Decided to replace the stock kernel with the P3 kernel, since I haven't really had time to test anything else with Froyo so far.

Anyways, battery life is just terrible. I only have it clocked at 900 (previous ROMs I was always using 1.1) because anything higher crashes or boot-loops the phone. It's super fast even at 900, so I'm OK with it, but here's the analysis of what I did today...

- Made one three minute phone call
- Sent two text messages
- Read an article on the browser
- Kept it in my pocket for 7 hours

It's at 20% already.

Which kernels have you found to have the best battery life with Froyo?

I've got the profiles all set up, same settings I've always used in the past. My phone says that Beautiful Widgets is using 93% of my battery, however I've seen this in the About Phone many times before with other ROMs and the battery has not actually depleted this quickly.

I think I'm going to try out Chevy's kernel tonight if I have the time. I liked his in the past.

I took my phone off the charger four hours ago and have logged well over two hours of 3G web surfing since then. Currently at 80%.

Chevy SS 4.0 w/P3 1.2 kernel. SetCPU at 550/1200 on demand.

Correction...clearly I've been flashing too much this past week. 8) I was actually running Chevy's 1.0 LV kernel. 500/1000 on demand. and 60% left, not 80. whew, lotta options lately. LOL. Sorry, no misrepresentation intended.

I 2nd Chevy's Kernels. I use the 1ghz LV like Girlluvsdroid recommended and it works perfectly for me (i'm on Kangerade like you).

About the Beautiful Widgets, I had the same problem. Try to turn of Geolocation first. It seemed like BW kept GPS on constantly (even when i had the update to every 2 hours). But if you said this is normal for you when you used to get good battery life then I don't know.

When you click on BW in battery settings does it say GPS is using a lot of the battery? I'd say your phone settings have been changed. Go into Location & security in Settings and choose "Use wireless networks." And then make sure that geolocation in BW is on but Use GPS over Network Location is off.

That was it. Thanks dude.

I was having pretty bad life with P3s Kernels too. So I switched to Chevy's LV 1.1 GHz and didn't see much of a difference. I checked out battery/network usage in Spare Parts and it said my Engadget widget was responsible for like 90% of my network usage . So I took the widget off and it seems to be a lot better now. Although I still see process "1013" in CPU and Network usage taking up a lot. I've Googled this and couldn't find an absolute answer as to wtf is actually is, but the general consensus seems to be that it's just a general Android process responsible for all the Google sync features and other misc. phone usage.

Anyone have any knowledge on this process? It doesn't actually seem to be killing my battery that bad, but it's still responsible for most of my drain.

ouch bro....i'm running P3 kernel 1200 mhz right now on froyo 2.2 w/ fabs nex theme and from 6 AM to 12 PM i'm still at 90 %..... w/ light use...including a little browsing.... mine last all day..... hate hearing your having some problems..... you may need to set your profiles on set cpu

Yeah, I'm using P3 Kernel at 1.25 Ghz with the latest Froyo NexBeast and am getting about what I did with BB1.0 with 2.1 and at 1.2Ghz. I don't know what the problem is, but I doubt that it's the kernel.

Edit: Ok, I read the rest of the thread and see that the problem was GPS. Funny how those settings can change on you!

With Kangerade and the 1.2 P3 kernel I'm getting good battery life. With my 2.1 ROMs I had the best performance from the Bekit kernels, but they don't seem to be available for the froyo ROMs? I tried Chevy, but my phone freezes on boot with them.

I also am using BW with no problems. Two things I would suggest trying:
1) Make sure BW is using a static location rather than GPS coordinates
2) Depending on which launcher you are using, make sure you don't have two instances of BW running. I am using Launcher Pro, and had to go back to the default launcher to remove all the widgets (including BW).

One other thing that kills my battery is leaving the wi-fi on. I've gotten into the habit of using 3G all the time with rare moments where I run wi-fi at home for big downloads.
