So ive decided that I want to root my N1 and add the desire sense ui custom ROM. Here are some questions and concerns I have:

1. Will I be able to tether using sense ui with froyo?

2. Should I wait to get OTA update before rooting and adding the custom ROM, or does make a difference at all?

3. I'm running windows 7....will that affect the rooting/ unlocking bootload/ custom ROM procedure?

4. Will I be able to manually update while using sense UI from here on out?

5. If for some reason I don't like Sense UI, will I be able to return to stock UI? Is the process difficult?

6. Can somebody walk me through this process? I'm willing to pay someone to help me. I've read step by step instructions and I'm still a little confused. I need someone that I can talk to on the phone while I'm doing the procedure. I'm willing to pay via PayPal.

So basically, I want my Nexus One to be running froyo on the Desire Sense UI custom ROM with the ability to tether. Is this possible?

While I'm no expert at this, I'll try my best.

1. Will I be able to tether using sense ui with froyo?
- Read up on Modaco's ROM and see if it includes the tether via wireless or USB. I've used Cyanogen and Enomther and they both had it, so I don't see why not.

2. Should I wait to get OTA update before rooting and adding the custom ROM, or does make a difference at all?
-No difference, either you want your Nexus One to perform 10X better now or later. I rooted my AT&T/Rogers N1 and opted not to do the Froyo update but using the Enomther ROM and I'm extremely happy. However if you want to be able to receive and update when OTA does come around, you can root BUT you have to keep the Stock Rom.

3. I'm running windows 7....will that affect the rooting/ unlocking bootload/ custom ROM procedure?
Nope, it's easier for you cause the drivers are easier to detect. Plus, guides usually are written with differentiations based on the OS.

4. Will I be able to manually update while using sense UI from here on out?
Yes, as soon as Froyo comes out, ROM updates will come out shortly after so you're guaranteed to have it just as soon as everyone else, maybe sooner. :)

5. If for some reason I don't like Sense UI, will I be able to return to stock UI? Is the process difficult?
Make sure you do a Nandroid backup before you change your ROM so you have that option. But once your Bootloader is unlocked, you cant go back.

6. Can somebody walk me through this process? I'm willing to pay someone to help me. I've read step by step instructions and I'm still a little confused. I need someone that I can talk to on the phone while I'm doing the procedure. I'm willing to pay via PayPal.
Save your money, go to Unlockr.com with vids and written directions and links to the downloads. From Unlocking Bootloader all the way to Flashing your Rom. It's hard to brick the Nexus One but make sure you follow instructions. You don't wanna be one of the few stats. ;)

Modaco has the SenseUI themes on his ROMs, read that and if you find the right ROM, then its easy as 1, 2, 3.

Thank you soo much. You are the best. One other question, you said if the bootloader is unlocked, I can't go back to the stock ROM? Why is that? what is the purpose of unlocking the bootloader?

No if you unlock your bootloader you can't 'lock' it back up. But you can go back to Stock ROM via nandroid backup. Run android backup as soon as you unlock your bootloader. unlocking the bootloader is necessary to obtain root. You can go back to being unrooted but you can't go back to a locked bootloader.
I wouldn't worry too much about bricking the phone, just be especially careful when updating the radio as it has the most risk. Follow instructions.

AND DON'T FORGET TO WIPE YOUR PHONE BEFORE LOADING THE CUSTOM ROM.
I did this the 1st time rooting and had a little scare, but nothing a simple wipe didn't fix after. ;-)

1. Will I be able to tether using sense ui with froyo?

Yes, most ( i would say all but don't hold me to it ) ROMs now come with the tethering app.

2. Should I wait to get OTA update before rooting and adding the custom ROM, or does make a difference at all?

That is totally up to you. Most will be upgrading to this version when released so...

3. I'm running windows 7....will that affect the rooting/ unlocking bootload/ custom ROM procedure?

I did it on Windows 7.

4. Will I be able to manually update while using sense UI from here on out?

You can always manually update as long as there is something from XDA to download and flash--provided you are rooted of course.

5. If for some reason I don't like Sense UI, will I be able to return to stock UI? Is the process difficult?

I think it is just a matter of downloading the original ROM, if you didn't make a nandroid of it, and flashing it. If you did nandroid, which i hope you would, restoring that should be it.

6. Can somebody walk me through this process? I'm willing to pay someone to help me. I've read step by step instructions and I'm still a little confused. I need someone that I can talk to on the phone while I'm doing the procedure. I'm willing to pay via PayPal.

Also currently, as far as I know, there is no way to have SenseUI AND Froyo at the same time. You can root it and put on a Froyo ROM or you can root it and flash the Desire port Sense UI ROM but there is not one with both together. At some point after the Incredible is updated to 2.2 then maybe we will see a 2.2 Froyo ROM available but as of now it is one or the other. Personally, I love the Desire port and am still using it (after trying a few different ROMs) until Google releases the 'final' version of Froyo without all the hassels that come with the versions now.

I install the Desire Sense UI ROM last night..and I must say...I am really impressed!! It feels like my Nexus One is completely revamped. I do have one question however....Why do I get a "H" symbol instead of 3G??? Data speed seems pretty much the same.
