I'm getting extremely upset with how hard it is to remove bloatware from this phone. I rooted it (using the toast method) but I can't find any app that will let me uninstall the built in apps. I keep seeing all this foreign language about adb and sdk and such and i'm having no luck.

I keep seeing people talk about typing a string of commands to take the stuff off but I can't even get the stupid sdk to start. I followed the instructions and I THINK I got the right sdk it won't work.

In the folder where the sdk downloaded to it has a folder called "tools" and inside that there are a few file some of them being and "adb" application and the "emulator" application, the problem is when I click either a command prompt type window flashes on screen for about a half a second then disappears. How do you start the stupid program to begin with???? Can anybody help me with this??

I have no understanding of linux at all, none whatsoever so can somebody explain this to me. All the guides i've seen assume that readers know linux and the basics of how to use it. I don't. Can anybody explain.

Just install the free version of Titanium Backup (or buy it, it's a great app). Go to the app you want to remove and select DELETE. Poof, it's gone. Or before you load a rom simply go int the ROM's zip file and remove all the apps you do not want (apk & odex) then load the rom and ..... no bloatware. No need for adb.

I am by no means an expert but from my experience, all of the adb commands need to be typed in a command prompt window. I am sure an easier solution for removing bloatware will come out eventually. Until then if you are not comfortable with command line in adb or windows I would suggest waiting.

Or you could just flash a custom erin with them taken out.
May I suggest omj, fresh or damage control?

See I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't want a custom rom I just want to get rid of the stock apps. I don't want froyo or a cooked 2.1 rom. I just want the one I got and be able to take the stock apps off. Is that possible?

If so how? I am rooted (used toast method) and i keep seeing people say use root explorer so i got that and i mount the system/apps folder as RW, I long press the apps i want to take off but they are still in the list of apps and even still usable even tough it said it was deleted in root explorer.

Also with root explorer something seems to be wrong. before I delete an a i'll have about 212 megs of used space and 137 or free space. When i "delete" and app the used space goes up and the free space goes down. anybody know what that's about?

I also see people saying to use titanium backup, but nobody bothers to explain exactly how to use it to take the apps off. I have both but i still have the stupid apps on this phone. Can anybody help with just getting the apps off not flashing a different rom, which I'm not interested in doing?

You have to use adb to pull apps (topic here) if you haven't unlocked NAND (from Toast's second guide). If you have unlocked NAND, you can remove them with Root Explorer (from the Market). However, like was previously stated, I highly recommend a custom ROM like Fresh Evo. It is essentially 2.1 stock with the bloatware removed and a couple extras added. It isn't complicated at all to just flash a ROM if you rooted via Toast's method. It is also much quicker and easier if you just flash a custom ROM.

Oh, and this doesn't work with bloatware. They're installed on the /system partition, and that isn't accessible unless you unlocked NAND.

Is there any way to do it without that adb crap??? I just want the simplest way to do it. Unlocking the nand looks to be extremely complicated. The root was easy as all i had to do was copy a file to my sd card and turn the phone on. This looks like I have to know how to use that adb nonsense which i dont.

I don't even know how to run it on my computer. I downloaded it. but when I go to the "tools folder I see something called "emulator" and something called "adb" I click both and nothing happens but a command prompt type screen pops up for like a half second.

So using adb is out as I want nothing to do with any type of command line or anything of that nature. So you're saying there is no nice dumbed down gui to get rid of the apps for good?

Is there and idiot guide to unlocking nand where every term is explaind in detail and the author of the guide assumes the reader doen't knowjack about android/linux cause that's the boa i'm in.

Also are there multiple posts? by me with the same topic? If so that's not intentional on my part

So what i'm getting from people on here seem to be android is overly complicated by default and I need a master's in computer science to remove a few stock app.

No, you need either the basic reading skills required to install adb and copy the code from the other topic or the common sense to flash a custom ROM using the EXACT same method that you used to gain root. The choice is yours. Until then just quit bitching and demanding everything be fed to you through a spoon.

It is NOT the exact same method unless all i have to do is put a file on the card and turn the phone on. Unless you got a step by step method that explains everything including stuff that experts assume you should know then you can see yourself to the door buddy cause you're not helping.

He obviously used unrEVOked which is why he said "he downloaded 1 file."

There is no step by step hand-holding method. There are numerous tutorials but anything can happen along the way on sometimes things can vary from how they explain them. This is not for the faint of heart. It's hacking an O/S. This is about as close as you will get to what you want: How to Root Your HTC Evo 4G! | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

Google "how to root an evo" and you'll find tons of stuff, but unfortunately there is nothing that will be like you want it .... a foolproof, simple, hand-holding tutorial. If you don't have the patience or enough interest to dig in to it you probably are in the wrong place. You do have a 30 day refund policy from Sprint if you hate the phone that much because you can't remove the junk.

I was under the impression that the unrevoked way was the one where you go to a website and it instantly "roots" it. What I did was was downloaded the PC36IMG and placed it on the root of the card. I held the up volume button while powering on. It allowed me me to use the up/down volume buttons to got through the selections and the power button to select one.

I waited while it did its thing and it rebooted after. Is that the unrevoked method or toast method?

I might just take it back. It's nice and all but if its this complicated i'll wait for the w7 phones as windows based hacks are usually alot easier because most things have GUIs

That's great can you explain HOW you did it?

Sure, but you won't like the answer:

How To Use ADB

[TUTORIAL/HOW TO] Basics of ADB - xda-developers
[TUTORIAL/HOW TO] Basics of ADB ~ by joeykrim

How to Root your EVO

[TUTORIAL] How To Root The HTC EVO ~ Part-1 \0/ - xda-developers
Root method PART 1 by toastcfh (Gaining Root Permissions)

[TUTORIAL] How To Unlock Nand Protection ~ Part-2 [Gaining RW Access/Full Root] - xda-developers
Root method PART 2 by toastcfh (Unlocking Nand Protection And Gaining Full Root)

Just part 1 will do but both is best. I spent about an hour on part 1 and 2 hrs on part 2.

You need PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER!

That's PART of the PART 1 listed above in the toast method. You are part of the way there but you need to follow the rest of the steps. Which requires your favorite program ... adb. :) The misleading part of the method you tried is that it states after you load the PC32IMG file you have root. You really don't have a USEFUL root until you complete the rest.

Thanks this actually looks helpful. Also that's the root method I used so I'm should actually be rooted so no problems there. Why can't all the guide be this clear?
