Root Return to stock help/suggestions

I am currently running bb v1.1 with 1ghz kernal. I have rom manager installed and clockwork mod flashed.

I want to completely return to stock.
I tried using clock work mod stock image but during the reboot it didn't work so I'm looking for advice. I'm a bit nervious about it and just want to do it. I just want stock and live with OTA updates.

What's the easiest way to to this? I found the info below in another post on the forums. Do I need to flash the alternate recovery first, i.e. SPF recovery in rom manager first? Do I need to worry about the 1GHZ kernal or does that get replaced also. I also noticed that the 2.0.1 file from the directions is 132MB vs. the 2.1 rooted file I first did in RDSlite (6MB) when I originally rooted.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Requirements
A. VZW_A855_ESD56_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.01P_SW_UPDATE_03. sbf (.sbf file)

Instructions:
1. Download all of the files above including the 32-bit OR 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers.
2. Install RSDLite AND the 32-bit or 64-bit Motorola USB Drivers (Depends on your system most will need 32-bit some will need 64-bit)
3. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off then turn it back on, while your phone is booting hold up on the DPAD. (Some users have said it is easier to hold the volume down button and camera button instead.)
4. Run RSD Lite 4.6 as Administrator (For all you Vista and 7 folks out there. If you are using XP you may not need to run as Administrator)
5. Click the ... next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file and double click the .sbf file.
6. Hit start and below it should give you completion progress and all of that.
7. Once your phone is done being flashed (It may take a while so don't unplug it) it will reboot and you will be back at stock 2.0.1 no root.

You will not need to flash SPF, and the kernal goes to stock. Yes this will revert the phone to 2.0.1, If i remember correctly the 2.1 full stock .sbf file was not made public but you will be able to update to 2.1 right away anyways.

I keep these files on a backup drive just in case i ever need to send my phone in for repairs; it works wonders if you want to go complete stock.

I have a stock update file that I believe is from the SholesMod era that should take you back to 2.0.1. I believe you'd need to rename the file from "Update_Stock.zip" to "update.zip" (no quotes), transfer it to your SD card, flash to alternate recovery (when I got this file, ClockworkMod wasn't around yet, so it'd have to be SPF Recovery, I believe), then reboot into recovery. From there, I'm not sure what the exact choices are, but it's something like Install update from SD card ---> Allow update.zip ---> Apply update.zip. I'd wipe data/factory reset at least once and wipe cache also, before applying the update.zip. After it's done applying, reboot, and you should be back to stock. I did use it once, back in February or March, because I wanted to root the phone myself instead of using SholesMod's app to do it, and it worked just fine. However, you're doing this at your own risk (of course), and perhaps someone a little more experienced would be able to provide more help. The file itself is ~66 mb, so if you want it, I'd have to email it to you or something, because it's too large to attach to a post in this forum.

it seems to have worked but I'm not seeing the 2.1 update show up and when I go to about phone system updates it says I am up to date.

Does it normally just take awhile?

The only problem with this is that it doesn't put the phone back to full stock. You are still stuck with a non stock recovery mod, which (if vzw needed to go into their recovery) might cause issues with warranty and such.

As for the phone not allowing the update yet, I'm not sure, i don't remember how long it took for me to be able to update to 2.1 after i restored.

dont take back a phone that doesnt have stock recovery. Just flash a 2.0.1 sbf file. Its easy and it works.

I manually installed the official 2.1 update by copying it to SD.

By using the RSD lite and flashing in the real 2.0.1 sbf file I would think I'm now "full stock"?
