Ohio cops can now guess your speed and issue a ticket...

lol @ thinking cops have quotas.

but on a related note, how do you think cops dealt with speeding before the invention of radars? Professional opinion.....

you can't tell me, you haven't seen a "punk kid" racing through town and you 'guestimate' how fast he's doing and secretly hoping he gets pulled over for "doing at least 60 in this 25 mph zone"

the problem comes if the cop tries to issue a ticket for a SPECIFIC speed for fine scales... it's hard to do. If the cop estimates you are doing 80 in a 55, but simply gives you a ticket for "failing to obey road signs" (in this case, the speed limit sign), then it's fine. I don't have to know you are doing EXACTLY 25 mph over the speed limit to know you are speeding

Serious? Besides sight issues and relativity? Even before radar, cops didn't simply guess. They used old scientific methods utilizing a stopwatch and two known points, lines in the road, pacing etc. All of these have been proven to be innaccurate(due to manipulation of stats and the mathematical imcompetence of the general populus) of, hence the creation of radar, laser, etc. to give a semi-dummy proof scientific method of measuring speed.

This is exactly the reason why I have surveillence equipment installed on my car, to help weed out cops who think they have some supernatural gift of measuring speed etc. Hell, this was all sparked when I was a "punk kid" and was being harrassed by the local PD.(well it was two cops, but still) needless to say I simply gathered evidence, and pressed charges for harrassment. it never made trial(semi-settlement), but the PD did apologize and dismissed the police Officers from duty. (Fired) they all dropped all traffic citations written by the two cops, valid or not. (40+)

Who is a cop, trained or not, better than any person living in the united states? Their testimonies should be taken with a grain of salt, just like everyone else. First hand testimony has been proven to be unreliable at best, hence the need for scientific anaylisis and evidence.

And on a side note, some(most) police forces do have a quota system, and that's how they get promoted. If there were no motivation for police to write tickets, well, there would be a fraction of written tickets there are now. I know all this first hand, as I have friends who are lt.'s in the chicago police force.

so you know all this through hearsay and speculation..... wow, I'm sold

you know the sure fire way never to get pulled over for speeding? It's a highly guarded secret locked away in the free masons secret meeting room and I could get my membership revoked by telling you this.... but here goes...

Yeah ok bud. Guess cops guessing my speed is better than technology & science. Your credibility is floating right next to hakr100's. Just passin' up neptune

Sub-shoe size IQ's are annoying at best.

Hey, since your ok with this, are you ok with cops guessing who commits murders too? Forget forensic science & real evidence! Let's just have cops guess!

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

profiling works - the only people that hate it are the drug dealers who get profiled....
it's not just a guess pulled out of their ass, it's a hypothesis (educated guess).... there's a difference..... Einstein did it, Newton did it.... any scientist ever has done it... .only when it goes against YOU do you take exception with it.

it's like asking you the best way to get from the Sears Tower to Wrigley field.... there are probably a gazillion ways. YOu could tell someone with your own educated guesses based on experience, which way is probably faster, safer, easier, shorter, etc.... I could also tell someone my opinion on how to best travel.... but out of the two of us, (one who's driven cabs in Chicago, and one that has never been) which one is GUESSING, and which one is better trained to offer advice...

same with cops.... I can guess your speed pretty close, but I don't do it every day... But I can damn sure tell when some punk is screaming through my neighborhood way above the speed limit.... I don't need a radar to tell that and if a cop can, in that case, issue a "failure to obey road signs" ticket that is essentially the same thing as a speeding ticket, then so be it.
