I'm completely drained, just like my battery on my Evo

After reading countless and countless threads about how to improve your battery life, and trying this hack and that hack, I see no difference in my battery life. I feel I have exhausted all resources, and as my subject states, I'm drained out as my battery on my EVO. You win HTC, I'm throwing in the towel, and accepting the fact that the battery life on this thing sux @$$. I'm done trying all the tricks that are out there. I'll have to live with the 1%/minute battery drain while surfing the web, and doing other normal activities on the phone. 100 mins of web browsing on the EVO and the battery is done! ....unreal.

that sucks..

I think it is a bad battery that you have or bad phone....
because...
you should be able to talk over 3 hrs without issues... talking on the phone should eat the most of your battery.

100min of web and it is dead....
take it back and get a them to replace the battery. That would be my next step. If you have a buddy with a hero, TP2 or an evo... trade batteries for a few days...

Wait! Going to try one more trick before throwing in the towel! hahaha

I tethered wirelessly for an hour today to my iPad and went down 6-8%. Not saying you're lying, but I find it hard to believe you killed a fully charged battery by being on the web for 100 minutes.

I'll go ahead and ask for giggles, what are your settings?

Oh, I was just hypothetically speaking. I noticed my battery drop from 84 to 83 within one minute of browsing. So if I was fully charged and continued browsing for the remainder of my battery life, I would probably be drained out within almost 2hrs.

My settings:

Rooted with Unrevoked

-Syncing exchange every 4hrs
- disabled auto sync for weather, news, mail
- disabled google talk auto sign on
- disabled facebook, and all other social networking widgets and syncs
- enabled clockwidget hack
- enabled CDMA hack
- did the charge to full, turn off phone, charge again, then turn on phone and charge again.
- disabled vibrate, alerts, etc.

The list goes on on what I've done. Now I'm trying the format SD card trick. As I'm typing this, I'm backing up my data from the SD card to my PC and going to format with fat32, and see what happens.

Ok but even hypothetically speaking your battery wouldn't necessarily go down by that percentage because how long had it been at 84% before it dropped to 83%? All the things you have done are a little above and beyond what you should have to but just for arguements sake can I get a few numbers from you?
-What is your Awake Time and Up Time?
-How long are you getting on a full charge from Time Unplugged to dead battery?
-WiFI, BLuetooth, 4g on? off?
-Have you ever done a Hard Reset? I learned from the Hero that Hard Resets do wonders for Android devices and their Battery lives. I hard Reset my EVO after it was having some Awake issues (It would randomly wake up and not go to sleep for hours at a time) and that issue is gone and my battery life tripled

sikclown, thanks for the response. I'll get you those numbers in a little while. Currently at work at the moment. I do have Bluetooth turned off, wifi off, GPS off, and 4G off as it is not available in my area. I haven't done a hard reset though. Perhaps I will try that this evening, and then apply all the tricks in the book again. I guess I won't be throiwing in the towel just yet! Thanks sikclown for the tip!

I think the most fun thing about this phone is that so much is customizable to the point that you can play with 1000 options till you're happy with it. I kinda like trying this, that, and whatever to get the max out of what is presented, because so far nothing has made the experience worse in changing options. If I am ever told "the best battery life comes with uninstalling google maps," I'll stop at that point and say good enough :D.

Yeah just bite the bullet and do what I did. Hard reset and then the following:
1) Facebook Sync Once per Day
2) Twitter Sync every 4 Hours
3) Weather Sync every 4 Hours
4) GSM to CDMA Auto PRL trick
5) Uncheck Always on Mobile Internet (I have it checked off today to see if it really affects anything)
6) GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth are off except when I need them but I always run my phones that way
7) Change Screen Timeout to 30 seconds
8) Turn of Window Animations (under Sound and Display)

I am getting anywhere from 18-24 hrs battery life depending on how heavy I am using the phone.

I've been streaming Pandora and surfing the web for 30 minutes now and my battery is only down to 91%. So, theoretically, if I kept up these same activities my battery would die in a little over five and a half hours. That's pretty damn good in my eyes.

Edit - Woops, got my starting times wrong. Been streaming and surfing for 38 minutes and am down to 14%. This is still about four and a half hours, which I think is still great.

So far I'm going on my 12th hr. since my last full charge at 9:30am this morning with 24% battery left.

Moderate use - text here, phone call here, browse some apps in the market, syncing exchange, chatting on Hi Yahoo, and playing about 20 minutes or so of Homerun Battle 3D.

I formated my SD card and did a PRL update. Now I'm thinking about doing a hard reset when I reach about 10%. I would really like to push my phone to last at least 18-24hrs before charging again.

I'm finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel! :D

Same here, awesome piece of phone but the battery is criminally horrible. I've had it go dead within a few hours, with 2 hrs., within 6 hrs, you name it, even trying all combination of tips found online. 1% loss a minute at times or every other minute or every couple. I do love the phone, the battery just me causes anxiety at times, like when you really need it man.

it's weird that this phone is the best battery life i've gotten out of a smartphone, haha. my hero sucked.

i havent' really toned down any settings, and i get around 18 hours without charing with medium usage.. only things that i really have off is the usual, wifi, and bluetooth..

gps is on, always-on mobile on, syncing facebook/weather/emails is on..

i'm actually surprised. i'm use to charging all the time.

i also always have a live wallpaper on.

So for the past 40 mins, I've been tethering (wireless), editing some of my contacts, and browsing facebook. My battery has dropped from 20% to 16%. Not too bad. My batter life has improved greatly since formatting my SD Card, and doing the PRL update. I'll do a hard reset next as I've heard that also improves battery performance.

Last two charges have gotten me at least 60 hours, with awake time at about 5 hours each. I mostly text, phone calls generally last me under 5 minutes with half of that as bluetooth through my car and I used the net for over an hour total during each cycle, and another hour or so using Sprint TV and another 30 minutes of messing with the camera. The rest of the time the phone is idle in average to good coverage areas. Using the phone for calls consistently will result in poor life as most smartphones are only rated for about 5-7 hours of talk time.

Those with poor battery life it would be good to also post your awake time so we know the ratio of use to battery life. Even blasting through the phone when brand new, I could get 10 hours non stop.

My phone was and has been set to CDMA auto. All haptic feedback and touch indicators are disabled by preference. No live wallpaper. Vibrate is tuned off for only silent mode use, screen time out is set to 30 seconds. The brightness is turned all the way down and this is also a preference. No radios run unnecessarily, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wifi are turned off according to use and I am not in a 4G area. No task killers or any other apps turned off, yet I don't run a lot from the market, it's mostly stock. I update the phone as much as possible and have done one hard reset, if that makes a difference. I also try to use 3G instead of Wifi for internet purposes if and when I can.

The biggest gains as of late came from the on, off trick HTC suggested. Charge the phone to green, then repeat several times both on and off until both show green. Since I have done that I have not had to really continue to do this. It's as if it extended the battery capacity and aligned or corrected the indicator. I suspect the same outcome from doing one or two pulls or shut off drains, which is also what I had done for it's first and 2nd charge. I know there is a whole debate with Li ion and all but I am a firm believer that when new it is recommended as part of a break in to max it's capacity. Then you should charge as normal or as indicated and once in a while do another pull.

Who knows if it really makes a difference but I don't over charge the phone and don't plug it in every chance I get. I may be wrong but feel it is good to let it drain until indicated and then take in a fresh new charge. I think it comes down to balancing better usability vs longevity. Most expert or professional battery sources seem to want to focus on tips and tricks that seem to aid in maximum longevity and not so much on how to improve immediate usability. I think the HTC trick and a few pulls will do that for you but I could very well be wrong. I can only say what it is I have been doing and what works for me.

I agree I think at least half of these issues people are having are due to the phones poor management (which seems fixable, due to people swapping batteres with other models, etc), and the other half is just usage.

I don't use 4g, and I have brightness down. GPS is always on, and wifi is on when I'm home. I have everything syncing every 30mins, with vibrate for notify. I get about a 26 hour charge, although I only use about 18 of it because I charge when I sleep. I'm not thrilled, but it's definitely manageable. If I didn't touch the phone all day and turned stuff off I'm sure I could manage 2 days.

I hope maybe HTC can fix some of these problems though, as like I said, I don't think all of them are just phone management issues. We shouldn't have to be doing all these tweaks to get good battery life.
