Good Evening All,
I`m getting Restless now waiting for my Hero
to come tomorrow and after reading on here and elsewhere
about when I get to start the phone up the first time I will be
asked for my Google account.
Now as I don't have one how do I go about acquiring one of these?
Is it really important to using the phone online ie:getting Apps?
I already have my e-mail account which I have used for a few
years now and am happy with my ISP, is this what I am being asked
about, G-Mail or something Separate?

Peace
Andrew.

Hey Monkey :D

1) You can Acquire one by simply going signing up to a Gmail , But Don't worry you can also easily to sign up to one on the Phone when you get it. It's easy , Free and only takes 2 minutes.

2) it's not 100% Necessary to have the Internet on all the time {for example if you just wanted to use it to make calls etc}. But You have to have some sort of internet connection to Retrieve Emails , Browse the Web , download apps etc.

3) You have to use a Gmail account as It's necessary for using the Market , So you must sign into a Google account.

However , you can quite easily set up your phone to retrieve emails from your existing Email provider so Its delivered to the phone ;)

I bought my Hero a couple of weeks ago on a T Mobile Solo 20 deal. Be warned - T Mobile will not tell you this but if you have an android phone they charge you an extra #5 a month for email including GMail. This despite the sales guy assuring me that the deal was all-inclusive with no additional charges for unlimited internet. I only found this out when my phone refused to sync either POP3 or Gmail giving me an error saying that my SIM card was not correctly configured. I do not know if this applies to other UK providers.
