HTC Didn't Learn Anything

Okay, let me preface this post by saying that I love my EVO, and I was one of the, apparently, 'fortunate' few who got one on launch day.

Everything on my EVO works perfectly, except for an issue I am having with the front-facing camera. The point of this post however, isn't the camera issue. Just take my word for it that after 3 master resets, formatting of SD cards, and many hours with Sprint and HTC tech support, it just doesn't work correctly.

Now, on to the actual point of this post! After realizing that I couldn't resolve this issue I reluctantly went back to the store (Best Buy) to exchange it. Well, of course they told me that they didn't have any more in stock to exchange it with and furthermore had no idea when they would be getting anymore in. All they could do was take my name and number and add it to the new pre-order list.

I find this lack of inventory extremely discouraging. It is not adding to the mystique or hype for the EVO. All it is doing is pushing more people to pre-order an iPhone 4! Did HTC not learn anything from the success of the Droid Incredible? I mean, when a Best Buy in a major media market only gets 10 units on launch day, that is a problem!!! Now, they literally have no idea when they will get more in.... it could be into July? That is completely absurd.

Anyway, this is by no means a slam on the EVO. In fact it is the polar opposite. Because I am such an EVO fan, I find this whole situation very disappointing.

I do believe that this issue is not HTC's fault. The carrier will tell them how many units to ship them, so if anything its Sprint that underestimated how many people wanted this phone. I am sure this will clear up soon. Besides, the more an item is not available the more people want it. Its just the way it is.

Anyone want to buy mine for ....lol 3K? hehe j/k I wouldn't sell it.

This is getting so old.

Be an adult. You have 2 choices. Get a phone launch day, be one of the cool kids and DEAL with the headaches that may come from getting a first phone. One of those being that you might have to wait for a replacement.

OR

Wait for 3 months before you get it. May not be able to prove how cool you are, but no issues 3 months in getting a replacement.

You choose. But don't come here whining when you don't like your choice.

We don't care. You made it, YOU deal with it..

You are telling him to be an adult? Really? I didn't know spending money on a product, then not getting what you paid for was acting childish.

Why do we as consumers have to put up with multiple defects on products that are newly launched?

I've been fortunate in that I've been able to buy many things in my life at a relatively young age. For example, I've had several new cars. I can say that the japanese cars I've purchased that were newly released I had no problems. However, when I baught my new american made SUV, after that model was already in production for some time, I had tons of problems with it. It was jus cheaply put together. The inside plastics were coming loose, the car was falling apart. That Suv was brand new, and was falling apart, just like the evo. I think it was a reflection of the american car company, because my japanese cars have been fine, actually the japanese cars have been built with such great quality.

You are asking people to accept mediocracy, and your resoning is because the product is newly released. If people didn't put up with this crap, then companies wouldn't release crap, until they got their quality control under wraps, invested more in testing, reasearch and development. You are essentially saying, sell me crap on day 1, and I'll purchase it, and if its still crap, I'll just bite my tongue since I baught it on day 1.

I don't think so! If you couldn't produce a quality phone on day one, then sprint and htc should have pushed back the release day maybe 3 more months, to work the small details out.

There are a few companies in this world who get things right the first time and continue to put out quality products on day 1, but the majority are releasing crap, because customers have your opinion, you make it okay for them to release crap.

People work hard for their money. If someone spends 200 300 400 500 bucks on a phone, then it better work on day 1 and be able to show it off to everyone.

Thats just my opinion

Yeah, but not what he was complaining about nor what above post was a responce to. HE was complaining that there were no phones laying around to immediately give him a replacement. So your entire post had nothing to do with what was being talked about.

And BTW. If you don't like the product, just take it back and get your money back. Simple. Crying about it publicly is just embarrassing.

IMO that pretty much is whining

You have a defective device, there is a warranty, you can return it, you can exchange it, you can buy something else. Cant replace via best buy or radio shack, well then order through Sprint. Dont want to take a chance on another? - Well plenty of other better phones out there right now....

This thread delivers.

So, children. What have we learned?

We've learned that if you buy a product, especially an early adopter's edition (aka launch day), there may be issues. This is pretty prevalent in the mobile industry, at least from my own eyes. I've come to terms with the fact that the Evo was not the first, or will be the last, of mobile devices to have the first round of shipments have a bad batch in them. Is it too much of a difficult concept to understand this?

I guess what i'm trying to get to, is that yes, I, and many others realize that you put your hard earned money into this device. It is, however, a piece of technology. As much as you wish it weren't so, technology isn't perfect, nor ever will be. Things go wrong. Machines making machines, tons of calculations, etc etc etc etc etc etc. You can't expect things to be perfect the first time around, every time.

I don't make tons of money, and spent a bit of money on this phone that I could have put towards a savings for myself. I had a perfectly working phone, but decided to sell it, and I took the plunge. I now am suffering from a "separating screen". However, am I upset that the device wasn't perfect the first time around? Nope. It is an amazing device, and i'm enjoying my time with it. I did my research, and am getting a replacement next week. I already have all my backups ready to go for my new device to arrive, and once it gets here, i'll have it rooted and just like my original within 30 mins, and i'll be happy again.

There's no reason in crying over spilled milk. I don't expect HTC, Sprint, or anybody else to be perfect in anything. The way I look at it, if I were to expect these companies to be perfect in the products they put out that I put my hard earned money towards, then I should expect myself to be perfect and be making millions by now. But, I'm not. If I cannot expect myself to be perfect, I can't expect anybody else, or anything to be perfect. Everything in this world has flaws, and the mobile industry is no exception.

You have every right to be upset, sure. You have every right to post your anger on this forum, sure. But will it do you any good? Probably not. You made a decision, and now you have to deal with your decision, or fix your decision in some way shape or form. You are the only one in control of that. Not HTC, not Sprint, or ANY member of Android Forums....

I believe your anger is a bit clouded and jaded by previous high hopes and intentions for this devices. My "suggestion" to you is, next time you want to spend your hard earned money on a device.... wait it out. Let us early adopters test it out for you, and deal with the headaches, and maybe you can save yourself some stress.

Sorry about your luck. :-\

lol you are defending a company for releasing a buggy product and saying deal with it.. Sounds like an apple fanboy saying We didn't want flash anyways.

You know, normally I participate on a forum where people actually read a post before commenting. Guess not here.

No where did I defend a company or product. I am only pointing out that OP CHOSE to buy a brand new phone that would be in high demand and limited stock for a month or so. And now he is crying that he can't get a replacement soon enough. And he is blaming HTC.

His choice, his problem. Again for last time. Don't want this problem, wait a few months to buy ANY phone.

How hard is that to understand?
