EVO and Macs

Any one here primarily use Macs?

I just got an EVO and will be writing a full review comparing it to my iPhone 3GS (for those who care, or were like me and on the fence on switching).

I will say I think it has enough pros to outweigh the cons, but it's baffling how poor designed some of the MOST SIMPLE things are.

Anyway, if guys out there using macs exist, I need some help figuring out how to get my stuff to sync - PROPERLY. I have weird formatting issues, and some other errors when i sync iCal with google and Address book with Google.

Anyone use a paid program like Missing Sync or the other ones?

I only use Mac's and i use doubletwist to sync things to the phone but for the calendar and other things like it I have yet to get that to work.

Nova, BusyCal seems interesting and I'm checking that out. But the default calendar app on the phone is a bit weak. (Almost useless).

I'll look into doubletwist though. Thanks!

Anyone try songbird or other apps?

Actually - I use a LOT of groups in my Address Book. While Apple includes the simple Sync With Google option under Preferences - and it does work - the group relationship gets lost.

So, I use a simple process: select all groups in Address Book, make a single vCard, bring up GMail on Safari, select Contacts, then Import (via vCard), and then remove duplicates.

Groups are preserved on my phone - I can take the vCards both ways - I'm happy.

If it weren't for having a life, I'd learn Applescript and automate it.

I have an interesting syncing system, how it works, I don't know. I have my calendar on exchange server. I downloaded the two way google sync, which works well with the internet, and my igoogle page displays my calendar and tasks. Google also syncs with my ical, which I normally don't use, but its nice my schedule is there. My emails come to my mac, phone, and exchange server. Its an interesting set up, but wherever I go, I have access to my schedule and emails. gotta go, will post more later.

I'm doing the same thing, and using double twist for vids and pics..my house is all mac, and everything works fine together with the EVO..

I'm not sure I followed all of this, but does this mean you need to manually sync contact info each time you make a change?

BTW - not part of the original question, but just in case...
How to sync the HTC EVO 4G with iTunes - Know Your Cell

Is this method preferred over using doubletwist?

At present, that's what I'm doing, but I'm stilling looking into this - with just a few weeks of Evo ownership (since 6/6), I'm no expert.

The Google Sync in the Address Book does work automagically, but it's not keeping my new contact's group association.

But that may be PEBKAC - problem exists between keyboard and chair. ;)

Is this method preferred over using doubletwist?

I just learned about doubletwist yesterday, to be perfectly honest.

Reemas -- send me your email address via private message and I'll send you a review copy of Missing Sync so you can share your feedback with us and others here on Android Forums.

(I personally use our product daily with my Nexus One)

ONE of the BIG problems with using a mac (mainly iCAL) with evo 4g / google

So why cant we pick "1st weekday" "last weekday" "third weekday" and MANY other combinations like in ical? - Calendar Help

see the above .. I have submitted this problem to google and ... well who knows when they will fix it

but this could be one of the reasons you're seeing funky sync issues

I am still in search for a proper and efficient solution

Either run, Windows under bootcamp.

Or get over the idea that you need to sync the phone with a computer. Break down and get a gmail account, and it automatically syncs everything via google. So you can easily update contacts under gmail, update your calendar on your computer, and it automatically syncs in real time with your device.

Google how to "Sync your address book on mac with gmail" Along with "How to sync your icalander with google calendar" . That will transfer everything to google online, then your phone will active sync with that, and you can be done with being tethered to just 1 computer and you can access your info from your google account anywhere.

Works very handy if you get a new contact, then you dont have to worry about syncing it incase something happens to it. Plus if you have to get a new andrioid phone all you do is enter your gmail and bam contacts/calendar are back..

Dont waste your money or time on missing sync, its has been crap in the past and I assure you it will be crap now. I had it for blackberry which you have to sync since it lacks this nice wireless google sync of the andriod phone, ended up just using windows under bootcamp.

The only thing I need to sync with a computer is music, really. I use TuneSync for that, since my library is in iTunes and I don't want to move it. TuneSync will sync playlists over wifi. Very simple, worth the price (like $4).

As far as contacts go, I just exported mine from Palm Desktop to a VCF and imported on the Evo. Google takes care of the rest, should you opt for that.

For pictures, I plug in and let Picasa import.

Help! :(

I'm having trouble with both...

I've added the Double Twist app to my Evo but it seems to only be picking up the music that I've added to my phone and not the music that I want to pull from my Mac. I've got the phone plugged into my Mac with the USB cord but nothing seems to be happening automatically and I'm not sure where to click/what else to open to make them sync...

I've gone the the link listed below in a previous entry to download the iTunes Agent but it doesn't seem to have really downloaded to computer...is it just me?? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks, AudgePodge6

Download DoubleTwist onto your Mac.

Try this link: Sync Android, PSP, BlackBerry, Pre: doubleTwist with Amazon MP3

I think the doubleTwist app for the phone is just a player

Hey Earlymon, another way you can get your groups intact is to do it through Google Voice. Just import your contacts vcard into GV and click settings, then groups, and the rest is self explanatory. Even if you aren't using GV on your phone, your group settings still get synced. And if your using a different gmail account than your GV acct, just export the vcard after your done then import into the gmail acct your using on your EVO. Thats what I did and it worked perfectly. All my groups are intact.

I am syncing my contacts/calendars via Google and everything seems to work fine, for the most part. The only things I've noticed that don't sync are birthdays and groups, but I have so few of both that doing it twice wasn't that big a deal for me.

On calendars, I have noticed that some of my event alarms don't sync to my phone, but sync just fine between iCal and Google Calendar.

I am still in search for a proper and efficient solution

I, too, want to find this. The effortless backup was one of the best things about the iPhone, and right now it's really the only thing I miss. I only had to use it twice in two years with the iPhone, but it's a nice safety blanket to have.
