D-Inc belittled by Moto fans

Is the DroidX out yet? If not I cannot compare. My friends have the original Moto Droid. It doesn't feel cheap which is a plus. It feels like you have a Costanza wallet in your pocket compared to the Inc though.

I have no issue with the feel of the phone. It is light weight and I go naked with the exception of a decal. Plus with a case on it, even if you took exception to whatever is making you think it is cheap you wouldn't notice it... because you put it in a case/skin/cover/etc.

I never thought I would say this - but the Droid X to me is the Droid Excessive.
It's too soon (IMO) for a launch of another high end device that isn't offering much more than the DInc outside of a larger screen and 720P output.
Outside of that, this is really the rival to the Evo with its own fair share of pros and cons. For me personally, the Evo is too big. I don't find it comfortable compared to my DInc. Can't imagine anything larger.
The only thing that would set it apart is Froyo but that isn't being utilized - even though the N1 just made it to SK w/ Froyo...doesn't make sense to me.

To answer the question - it's really a matter of personal preference. The original Droid is a brick and I really do like the weight. However the DInc feels more streamlined and modern. I'm not seeing that the Droid X is going to offer this same feel due to the sheer size of the phone. I don't think the DInc feels cheap by any means. I've used it "naked" since it's arrival at my desk to recently put a clear case on it, which is now sitting in the car because I didn't like the feel of it. This is coming from an LG Voyager which isn't a sleek phone by any means.
Hope this helps.

I was noticing on a comments section of an article about the new Moto DroidX that the Droid Incredible was considered lowly and toy-like.

I have the D-inc on order, or rather backorder, and was wondering what your take is on this. Is the D-inc cheap feeling? Does it offer less than Moto Droid does? Any insights?

Thanks!

i honestly feel some motodroid owners do this to justify the product they have, when they covet the INC that someone else has. I have the INC...I gave up the motodroid. It is not a toy. However it IS thin and light....which to me was why i gave up the motodroid which felt like a brick.

the physical keyboard is terrible. use google my friend to get an ubiased opinion.

Have you had any issues with the non-grounded screen response issue? See HTC EVO 4G and Droid Incredible suffering from unresponsive screen issues -- Engadget

Not too sounds like too much of a homer, but no. I really don't have a problem with the non-grounded screen that I've noticed. Maybe it's the way I hold it or how I touch even when it is in the car cradle. Dunno. Using it out in the direct sunlight though is my biggest complaint. It was well documented and speculated about before I bought it though so I went in knowing about it. It isn't unusable as some people make it out to be. But is isn't great or even good. It's just barely enough to get by.

I agree with Distant that for me the EVO is just a tad too big for my personal choice. I love the kick stand though. Wish the DInc had it. There will always be something bigger, better and faster. As long as you can use your device for what you want and are happy it doesn't pay to be envious. You'll start lusting after something every six months in this market if you do and never be satisfied.

To say the incredible feels like a toy is completely wrong. The incredible feels perfect in my opinion. Im not brainwashed, thinking that the incredible is miles ahead of every phone out there and it can do no wrong. I just think its the perfect size and weight.

I came from a heavy phone (htc tilt) and I just couldnt stand to have another brick in my pocket. I felt the droid and that thing was just way too heavy. Yes it feels sturdy but in an industrial way, if that makes sense. The incredible feels solid. Not too light, not too heavy.

I see the motoX is bigger than the EVO. Thats just way to big for a mobile phone. I was first drawn to the HD2 when I saw its grand size, then I actually held it in my hand it put it right back down immediately.

All of these are personal preference though. Maybe you have huge hands so something like the motoX would be perfect. Maybe you want a phone that feels like it will survive a nuclear attack, than the incredible may not be for you.

The incredible is a sports car plain and simple. Small package but it can get up and go. Its sleek and sexy (as much as a phone can be).

Dont let others make the decision for you. Go feel similar phones or wait until the motoX actually comes out.

BTW, the unresponsive screen issue really isnt an issue at all. Slightly annoying? Yes, but the fix is easy (pick it up and hold it).

The motorola droid is an amazing phone. I remember when we were awaiting the Dinc, we would take pot shots at the "old" droid as being clunky and underpowered. However, like the Dinc, it still is one of VZW's top selling, high-end, highest price phones.

If you had bought a Droid, you wouldn't have made a mistake. It's a great phone. If you purchase a Dinc, you would not be making a mistake. If you purchase the X you won't be making a mistake. They're all great phones running a great OS. Me? I want the 1ghz processor as I tend to use my phone heavily and multi-task a lot. Others may want the 720p recording and the bigger size. To each his own.

I assure you, however, the Dinc is not a cheap toy. It is a sophisticated piece of tech. So is the Droid. So will be the X. Honestly? So is the iPhone. Had it been made available to VZW before I got Android savvy, I would have bought it. I got wiser, however. I had grown to detest Steve Jobs and I'm one of you, now.

Somehow, I think that if you can put down another phone, it makes the one you have or want better. The dinc is fantastic. It is a great phone. The variety we now have makes your choice both difficult and sweet. Enjoy the dilemma. :)

I really don't care what anybody else says about the Incredible. I love my phone and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

same here. my Inc replaced a rooted and overclocked Moto Droid. i was happy with the Droid until i tried a Sense ROM on it and instantly fell in love with Sense. once the Inc was official i went to best buy and pre-ordered one. i was first in line on launch day to get it, and have been in heaven ever sinc

i have had the Inc for a month and a half and i can truly say i prefer the Inc over the Droid. it's better in every single way. it's lighter, thinner(even with a case), faster, smoother, more stable, and way sexier looking. the Droid is an ugly and heavy brick with a useless keyboard. i thought the Droid was ugly and heavy since day one, but it was a beast when it came to hardware, at least for a short time.

I don't think mine feels "toy-like". I will say that the initial turn-off for me with the Moto Droid was the "toy-like" drooooooid notification sounds and goofy eye when you boot up. I like the clean, "keep it official" approach used by HTC. Not sure what the plan is with the Droid X, but if it follows the same theme as the Droid, then that's the more "toy-like" phone IMO. That bump on the back of the Droid X for the camera is a letdown. Sorta kills the thinness of the rest of the phone. I do like a lot the Droid X has to offer, like HDMI and 720p recording, but it's not leaps and bounds better than the Incredible. It'll take 4G to achieve that.

The last thing I will comment on is the screen type. After watching video content on AMOLED (with LOTS of experience on my old ipod touch LCD), LCD displays are seriously amateur. Sure AMOLED has it's drawbacks, mainly viewing in sunlight right now, and super AMOLED won't be beyond Samsung's grasp for at least 18 months from now, but unless you spend all your time outdoors, it's of little concern. Contrast makes a huge difference and I'm not sure I could condescend to buy another phone with LCD regardless of screen size.

Don't worry about what other people think about your phone! It's mine, I like it and it does what I want to. It's not different than some people think if you drive a mid-sized truck you don't drive a "real truck" and if you don't ride a Harley "soft tail" you don't ride a Harley.

Well, I own a 2006 Tacoma TRD double-cab 4x4 that has done anything I have ever asked it to do including towing our 5,000 lb camper all over the country. Truck has 100K on the clock and looks and runs like it did the day I bought it new. I own a HD Dyna Super Glide and it will out accelerate and out-corner any darned soft tail on the street. I have an HTC Incredible and it will run just as fast or faster any app that any Moto Droid puke has running on their phone (non-rooted).

By the phone YOU WANT and don't sweat what other's think.

Gotta go hitch up my girl truck to my camper to get ready to head out for the weekend. :D

I must say that the Inc. without any sort of cover on it is very sleek and thin. "Toy-like?" In someways, maybe. An actual Toy? Not on your life!

Another consideration: The Inc. being as small and thin as it is, when a cover is put on it, makes (as goldilocks said) "this phone feel just right!"

Loves me some Incredible.

Moto guys, I've never bashed your phones. Please don't bash mine. Buy what you want and enjoy it.. that's what I intend to do!

I preordered a Droid Incredible and got it a couple days earlier than the official launch. I love this phone, a lot.

I have no issues of any kind. No hardware issues, no grounding trouble, no software issues and battery life is great.

Did I have a twinge of regret when i saw the Droid X? For a quarter second, yes. Then I realized how bloody enormous the phone is. It is even bigger than the Evo.

Also, this is just purely personal preference, but i really love Sense UI.

Going back to Stock android or worse, motoblur, would be painful for me.

The Incredible is solidly built and slender and light weight without feeling cheap.
