Android Gmail account synching question

Hi! My internet service provider uses Google to power its email. Consequently, it doesn't use "@gmail.com" as its domain. Would it be possible to use that account as my primary Android account for synching contacts, calendar, push email, etc.? Getting Droid soon.

This is the Droid "Eris" forum, so I will be specific with you. My understanding is that yes you can, but the functionality is better on the Moto Droid because of Android 2.0's better account handling. Anyone with an actual android phone feel free to correct me. :)

edit: My assumption is that you are talking about a domain account through google apps.

Absolutely...any domain that is on Google Apps works just fine with Droid or Eris. I have Eris and a Google Apps account and have no problem at all. I just hope you have very good eyes, though. The font size on both phones in Gmail is so tiny everyone is complaining about it. Hoping there will be a software fix in the future for it.

Google apps for domains works for me EXCEPT for the calendar. When I added this account I can sync contacts and mail, but calendar doesn't even show up as an option. Calendar does show up as an option for my @gmail account though.

Any ideas?

Not sure if I'm understanding your correctly, but I use Google Apps for my private domain and all three (Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts) show up just fine. Go to Home|Menu|Settings|Data Synchronization|Google|...and you'll see all three. Make sure Calendar is checked here.

I have the same problem, but I've got enough information on the phone that I worry about losing stuff when doing a factory reset. Are there any options out there without totally reinstalling everything?

I use My Backup (Free in the App Store). Backs up the apps that you select, as well as all data, to the SD card. Once you do the reset, restore from the backup, and you should be good to go.

Has anyone else experienced this issue...

My calender seems to sync with Google; however, the sync date on my phone never changes from "Fri. Nov 27, 2009 10:43 AM" as the last recorded sync.

When I auto sync, or manually sync, my Gmail and contacts update just fine; however, the calendar sync never appears to complete (ie, the sync symbol continues to spin until it times out or I cancel the sync).

The only advice I receive from Verizon or HTC is to do a factory reset but I hate to do something so drastic just to have my calendar sync date update - especially since the calendar does actually appear to sync.
