Unusual battery issue. (Not the norm)

Hi, recently I became the proud new owner of a HTC Hero, after upgrading from a HTC Magic.

Unfortunately the novelty soon wore off. As soon as fully charged the phone as soon as unplugged was put to one side and an hour later I picked it up and battery had dropped by 52%, and every so many seconds an extra !% would drop off, this was frustrating to say the least. It finally dropped to ZERO and powered itself down. I immediately switched it back on and it showed a battery level of 86%, and then started dropping at same rate again reached zero, powered down, switched on, showed 78% then on third occasion 70% and so on and so on...

Ok, now the Bluetooth is off, Wi-fi is off, on the second occasion that I tried this I even put the phone in flight mode, and it dropped at same rate. I would understand there is an issue if battery just rapidly drained itself, but the fact on reboot it shows that it has ample battery, definitely above zero that it reads as it powers down.

What on earth is wrong with my phone? It's driving me insane!

Phone currently lasts around hour and 30 mins from 100% before first power down and later in the day 30 mins at max, making a phone call lasting more than about 20-25 minutes is impossible as it just turns itself off, and seeing as my phone is used for work, this isn't good!

Hi Jim. I only got my hero on saturday but for me the battery life has been fine. I easily get a full between charges. Sounds like a dodgy Hero maybe.

Also, check awake time % in About Phone menu. What does it say? Mine says 17% at the mo but some people have been reporting 100% even when the phone seems to be on standby, and as a result of that some people batteries have been draining at a crazy rate.

Looked at it again and it's staying around 20% after being on a while and dropping below 10% too at some points. So the power isn't being wasted, the phone is just some how not being able to register the true energy level remaining. Truly a annoying phone. Shame that this has happened as it's made me lose faith in HTC.
