Root To root or not to root

Hey guys,

Basically I'm getting a desire this weekend and have read a lot about rooting. I was wondering whether it would be worth it to root it as soon as I get it before getting into complications or should I leave it as is knowing that an update will be coming soon? Could anyone list any main reasons why I should or shouldn't? If possible don't list reasons that will come in the 2.2 Froyo update, such as apps2sd or tethering.

I quote from the first lines of that thread

"The whole point of rooting is (mainly) getting apps2sd, which is extremely useful. It allows you to install apps to the SD card and not the internal memory."

So that's basicly it. Rooting gives you apps2sd. That's the main raison why someone roots his desire.

Alright. I know that much. Is there any other advantage as I know apps2sd is coming in froyo so if apps2sd is the only reason to root then I'd rather wait.

I'm not 100% sure you lose the warranty. I've heard you can flash back to stock and HTC would be none the wiser should you need to send the phone back. Don't quote me on that, I just think I've read it somewhere, probably over at MoDaCo.
