My Invincible Droid Eris

A story....

I dropped my phone in the Verizon holster clip about a week ago. The top of the clip that hold the phone in took the fall and part of it broke off. It was still holding the phone in pretty well so I just kept going with it as is.

Tuesday of this week, I get home from work, and as I am unloading several items from my truck, the phone falls out of the clip in my front yard. I came inside, put up my things, help my wife with dinner, put kids to bed, did some reading and fell asleep while reading, never noticing my missing phone.

The next morning, I wake up and immediately realize it's gone. I looked everywhere I could think of for that phone. I go through the entire day without it. In the afternoon, we have a typical summer thunderstorm roll through, but this one was pretty bad. It rained for about 2 hours and knocked out my power. When I get home, the electric company is going in and out to repair a broken line. While standing outside, my daughter yells "Daddy, I found your phone. I think the dog ate it." Sure enough, my dog had found my phone first. It has a visible bite mark on the front and back at the bottom right corner. The screen is fine but covered in dirt, grass, and mud. I immediately pop the battery out and take it inside. Once the power comes back on, I blow the phone out with compressed air and clean off all the dirt. I notice that the back behind the battery has little to no moisture, so I pop the battery in and plug it up. The charge indicator comes on! I wait a couple of minutes and power it up. It comes alive! My Eris lives!

I think that my dog might have saved my phone by taking it up under my house during the rain. She's a good dog! :)

The only noticeable defect is a slight grittyness in the trackball, but everything else is working great!

TL;DR
My Droid Eris survived a night outside with my dog and two hours of heavy rain.

I think what happened is that your phone went into autonomous mode and ran to the doghouse when the rain started... the bite marks were from your dog defending itself.

Seems more plausible to me anyway. :D

I was wondering who replaced the "Google" logo on the back with a Decepticon logo. Now it all makes sense.

Its a dang durable phone! great story :D

My iphone 3G went through a few little adventures like that, it's the simplest things that end their lives thought when you least expect it.

I have dropped my eris several times, always leave it on my lap when driving, bad bad bad habit, because when I get out, it ends up smacking into the pavement. Done that several times, still looks new! ... Few days ago, at the gas station, it slipped out of my hand, went to catch it with the other hand, .. ended up accelerating it faster into the concrete instead, WACKKK!! Shattered the glass. Still works perfectly though, gotta tilt it sometimes when reading text on the display to see behind the cracks, oh boy.

Impressive... most impressive.

Well, that was going to be the title of a post I was going to write today about my girlfriend's eris taking abuse; up until saw and read this thread. Looks like ya beat me to it.

It does seem the little eris is a tough sum'bitch... so far my gf's eris has been dropped on concrete 4x (that I know of by witnessing personally), stepped and sat upon, and she's even let it take a ride in the washing machine (with bleach and detergent!). That's just how she treats the hardware. To my knowledge, she's downloaded somwehere between 80-90 apps, never cleared any caches, and never cleared cleared the call log or text messages, yet it's still chugging along.
