Swype beta is out and works on X10

After trying (unsuccessfully) several found versions online, I registered on their website for the next beta. I got the email yesterday saying I could download it for my phone. I have, and its great.

My only complaints so far are that there still doesn't seem to be any landscape support, and the default prediction setting needs to be adjusted (which I will tinker with at a later point).
Otherwise its great, and once landscape mode is supported, I would gladly pay a couple dollars to use this keyboard all the time.

What? Really?

It has got every word I have swyped into it so far and love the way you swirl on a letter to double it for words like "foot" or "been".

I have had no landscape issues at all! Just turn the phone on its side the screen does its "fuzzy" thing and there it is in landscape mode. Seems odd your having issues? It even works fine on my girlfriends Samsung Galaxy Portal.

the swype milestone version works landscape so you shouldnt have a problem with that one.

talking of milestone, is there anyone whos tried out both the milestone version and the latest x10 version.. if soo is there really any difference?

im thinking maybe its not worth me going through all the hassle if its going to do the same thing.. the milestone version works perfectly fine for me but was wondering if theres anything additional to make me change my mind?

thanx

I got in to the Swype beta last night and have been using it ever since. It truly is amazing how well it works! The only time it stumbled over something was when it was a word that involved an apostrophe (which I just typed out as usual), otherwise it got everything. It even got my gf's last name right on the first try, it is a pretty Slavic name and it didn't even hiccup on it. I'm quite impressed with it.

i installed it last night and now my phone wont go to sleep unless i hit the power button to make it go to sleep. i uninstalled it and phone went to sleep normally

I take it you didn't read what the app says it does to your phone state? It does tell you before you install the app it will do this.

But if you go to your setting and readjust the time it takes for the screen to sleep then it resets this issue and your screen will turn off, but for some reason it looks like the settings have not been altered but just click on what ever seeing you had before and it's sorted.

Huh. I didn't even notice that in the app description about it keeping the phone from turning off the screen. I always use the Power button to put it to sleep and it hasn't been a problem. Actually come to think of it, I've had to go answer my landline while in the middle of writing a text with Swype and when I come back to the phone, the screen is off. Maybe I had already adjusted these settings before the app was installed and that worked?

Downloaded and installed (X10) and it works fine. It is very nice.

What concerns me is that when I clicked enable Swype in the language settings, a pop-up says "This application will collect everything you type including credit card number and passwords". Really !?! :(

I noticed this too. It definitely bothered me. Why would it need to do this? What happens to that info it collects?

EDIT: I just went to the beta install instructions page and at that particular section, they have a disclaimer that they don't collect any of this information.

I just wanted to add that after tweaking the prediction settings to pop up a bit less, I find swype way more effective. Also, for whatever reason, Landscape mode did not work at first, however after going through all the settings, it now does.

Truely the best keyboard you can find, and after a few days of using it, I doubt that you will want to go back!

Downloaded the beta to my phone but it won't install - keep getting asked if I want to install it, click 'yes/ok' then get asked again

The first download is an installer app for swype then after installing this and opening it then asks if you would like to install the swype program, input your username and password you set up before installing the installer app and then it should start to down load the program and after this and a few clicks you should have it.

;) Thanks for that, I now have Swype on my phone ;)
