Root Help, my Droid keeps rebooting on it's own.

Hey guys, I need some help. My Droid keeps rebooting on it's own. It's stuck in a boot loop. I have tried to do a wipe and restore a nandroid backup that I made last week and it's still rebooting.

As soon as the phone tries to mount the SD card it reboots.

I have also tried to restore it to a plain vanilla backup that I made right after I rooted my phone.

Clockwork see the SD card with no problems and can read and write to it. Also Win 7 can see the card when I put it in my laptop. This seems to have started after I used MotoTorch Flashlight and had to do a battery pull on it because the phone locked up.

What can I do?

Well if I was in your situation I would try wiping data and cache and test every back up that you have. If that doesn't work try just wiping data and cache and starting over. If that still isn't good enough I would wipe the SD card or call Verizon or something. Before you do anything I just said have someone confirm it because I don't want to mess up your phone.

I've already wiped data and cache on the card. I have also tried a couple of different backups that I have. I am now trying to apply an update.zip of FRF57V021 to see if that will fix it. I don't think it will but it's worth a shot. If this doesn't work I think I might try and unroot the phone and take it in to Verizon. This phone is only 8 days old.

Copy all files off the SD card and onto your PC to back them up, format the card, and then try to boot up again.

You could also try downloading and flashing a 2.1 ROM (like Bugless Beast 1.1 or CyanogenMod 5.0.7.1).

This is what I would do. Use ROM Manager or other means and download a stock ROM (rooted...but you want simple for this). Download the rooted, stock ROM, put it on your SD Card but don't install it yet.

- Boot into recovery (I assume you are using Clockwork if not...you have to use adb with SPRecovery...Clockwork is easier).

Perform each of the following at least 2 times.
- Format Data (Factory Default)
- Format Cache

Then go into the "Partitions" menu and do each of these 2 times.
- Format Boot
- Format System
- Format Data
- Format Cache

Get back to the main screen and choose to install zip from sdcard. Find the rooted stock rom and install as you normally would. When finished installing, reboot and you should boot up. If not, I would start over (and try at least one more time before you give up )

If successful, you will have a rooted stock ROM loaded up. You don't need to keep this ROM for any length of time...we just wanted to get you out of the boot loop by wiping EVERYTHING and then installing something that we know would play nice with your phone.

Now, put the ROM that you actually want to install on your sdcard and start over with wiping data/cache, formatting each of the partitions as before...then load your ROM of choice...reboot enjoy!

I searched the forum and didn't come up with anything. Thanks for the link anyway and the reply. I did fix it by formating the SD card on my laptop and then installing a froyo ROM. After that it worked like a charm. I am now back at a 2.1 ROM.

I would stay at 2.2 but it's a bit buggy on my phone at the moment. I'm gonna wait until the official release comes out before trying froyo again.

I know you said issue is "closed" but I wanted to point out a few things. Formatting you SD Card doesn't have anything to do with boot looping when installing a new ROM. My guess is that just reflashing the Froyo ROM worked well enough to get you out of the boot loop.

Before giving up on Froyo because it is "buggy"...that is probably an issue with not wiping and formatting properly. My advice would be to follow the instructions in my last post exactly (you can omit the part with installing a rooted "stock" ROM but you want to wipe data/cache and format your partitions and then load the 2.2 ROM you have.

Failing to wipe/format can cause issues where your phone will act "buggy" when installing a new ROM. I'm not telling you what to do, but aside from a few known problems with the Froyo ROMs, they all seem to be very stable.

When I was stuck in the boot loop I wasn't running a 2.2 ROM. I was actually using a BB 2.1 ROM and had been for at least 4 days with no problem. I downloaded the motortorch flashlight app and tried it out and it locked up my phone. They only way I could get it to stop was to do a battery pull. After that the phone went into a boot loop. As soon as the phone tried to access the SD card it would reboot.

I have bookmarked the link you posted earlier and will give it a try next time I have a problem. I had already fixed my problem before reading your post or I would have tried that first.

I did do a wipe before installing 2.2. The problems I had were with the market and some of the apps that I like to use. I might even try 2.2 again tonight. I have a 12 hour shift at work tonight so I am sure I will have plenty of time to try a new ROM out.

Guys I beg you please don't give up on us! I am having the same exact problem with the endless boot loop. Here's what I did before system failure:

Running BB 2.2 Froyo build OC at 800mhz. I formatted the SD card from the phone and then proceeded to uninstall all apps from the marketplace because I was* getting this thing ready to sell.

Then I tried to do a clockwork restore with just plain BB and that's when the problems started happening.

I am having all the same problems as the OP except it says "error" when I try to turn on wifi, meaning I cannot connect to the marketplace to re-download rom manager and flash a new rom. The phone will also not power off the battery despite being plugged in to the wall socket for several hours. When I manage to get into Android OS there is a red X through the battery. The droid is constantly rebooting to the M logo after being in the OS for no more than 4 minutes. Clicking around on the phone is slow.

I've tried holding X and booting into SP recovery. I have the newest version of BB update.zip on the root of my SD card and am trying to install from SD but it fails at step 7 with an SD card error. Can someone please help me? I've done everything that I know how to do thus far.

All system files are gone, and the phone is essentially in a stock 2.2 state with the welcome to android screen and all. I am getting into the OS by tapping the four corners but I immediately have hangups and a force close option for "process system" not responding. To make matters worse this phone is not connected to Verizon's network as I have the Droid X now. Please help!!
