HTC do an Apple- the end of custom roms???

Hi all

It looks at first glance that HTC have lost the plot with their Cease and Desist order aimed squarely at

Shipped ROMS

It is not clear if HTC's intention is to prevent IP like sense being ported to non-htc handsets or whether they are trying to halt rom cooking full-stop.

If the latter is true then we are all going to end up with phones that are as customisable as i-phones- gulp!!!

There are moves afoot at XDA-Developers to coordinate a response.

I've seen my buddies unrooted DInc, and even with the stock ROM, it is way more customizable than ANY stock iPhone. Even compared to my jailbroken iPhone, it is more customizable, although the difference isn't quite as big.

There isn't any need to get so hysterical. HTC isn't clamping down on custom ROMs; they just don't want shipped stock ROMs to be available, organized and neat, from a source that's not them.

agreed with the above, based on what I've been able to gather.

ie: HTC don't mind if you put custom roms on your HTC phone, but they don't want you putting (eg) SenseUI on non-HTC phones.
