Help Ever since I updated to 2.1 I have no facebook friends

Since I've upgraded to 2.1, I've dropped from 4,700 something friends on facebook to 2954, and my facebook application, and my people list both say I have no friends, when I go into the facebook app, and it does "Loading friends..." this is the error it shows:

Cannot retrieve the friends list. Please try again later. [content too large:
660054 (application/json)]

When I go into the photo's app, and go to facebook, it shows all my FB friends' profile pics no problems.

I'm using a HTC Hero, and back when I had android 1.5 (now at 2.1-update1) I was able to go into people, then select a person, click on updates and events, then choose link facebook profile, and it would bring up suggestions from my facebook friends, I'm guessing based on first name, then it was really awesome because I could see my friends events, and thier most recent facebook status updates under people. I only have about 30 contacts in my phone, so if I could link them manually one at a time I'd be content, but I can't link them at all!

I've read a few other threads that have since died about this subject, and I've tried what they suggested I think (things such as removing authorized things on facebook from my pc, removing the facebook app from my phone and re-adding it.) It seems to me that if it can find all my friends' facebook photo albums, it should be able to let me link my 30 contacts to their facebook profiles.

Frustrated, and hoping someone can tell me how many more FB friends I need to remove, or any other solution! Is this officially a bug in the 2.1 software, or is it due to me having too many fb friends?

I'm guessing you're using a Sprint Hero, right? I'll move this to the Sprint section then.

Unless you happen to own a Taiwanese GSM hero (the only ones with 2.1), in which case I'll move it back.

For the record most US Hero's have 2.1 now, mine does has since May.

Not sure the idea of Facebook was befriend everyone on the planet, maybe people are trying to tell you something.:p

I Agree. I thought the point of facebook was that it wasn't like myspace where you befriend everyone you possibly can in hopes of the occasional booty call? It shocks me when people i know have 2-300 friends. A few thousand just seems like overkill. How can you possibly keep track?

Back on track though, i suggest going through and cleaning up your friends list to the people who's updates/status you actually care about reading, that way you don't have to worry about missing something important. (i'm sure you can knock that list down to about half with no problems)

Haven't heard anything about it, but the FB app probably has a limit of how many friends it can actually show. Probably hasn't been any news about this because it really shouldn't come up.

i highly doubt it's the facebook app that's preventing us to sync our contacts. it's a bug within the 2.1 update that's preventing the sync to complete it's purpose.

something that goes like this: com.htc.bg

whatever that is won't let it finish syncing. i read that if u get a task killer and keep the peep app then it may prevent the com.htc.bg from fcing.

you may have tried this method, but if not try this. i've read that it worked for some. i'm really big on facebook and i have 2000+ friends and NONE of them sync so i'm always concerned with these facebook posts and i like hearing about the results. anywho..ur more than welcome to try out my method here. good luck

Yeah. I've tried this multiple times, as recently as last night before I started this thread with no success :(

I joined a bunch of add-me groups on there for the many games I play that it gives you a bonus to have a large party.. mafia wars, fish wrangler, mousehunt, etc. Like I said I've been working for weeks now deleting like 50-60 a day and at this point I'm down to 2909. I need to check each one to make sure they are not people I talk to from these games where people often have different in game names, and it's a lot of work deleting them.

If photos can find all of my friends, and 1.5 allowed me to link to my friends, why can't I do it in 2.1? I don't want to sync my contacts or anything, just link the people I actually would ever call.

Sorry in advance for this. I just had to do this:

EDIT: Ah man, I just noticed someone already said it above. Boo! Oh well, I put some MS Paint effort into it at least.

I wrote back with my phone, and I was hoping you'd clarify. I've made it a goal for myself to vet and remove 40 friends a day until I get my phone to work. Today I got the facebook app to work, but I still can't do what I want.

If there is a good hard line where you can't have over X# of friends, I think everyone should know.

I believe even on a pc your news feed is limited to only like 250 friends. I can't imagine a mobile app giving you the ability to see more if the actual site is that limited.

I'm not worried about my news feed, I want to link them in the people app.. where you click the person, then go to Updates and Events. When I click "link to facebook profile" it has no results. I can now scroll through all my friends in the facebook app, and always could in the photo's app.

My point on saying use your PC was that if you need that much of a social networking fix maybe using your phone isn't the best way to go about it. Or you can buy one of those peice of junk Kin's from microsoft.

I was just hoping my phone would work like it did back when I had droid 1.5, and allow me to do what it's supposed to and be able to link my contacts to their facebook profiles, I don't want to sync my phone with my facebook friend list or anything.. just the 30 or so friends I like.
