Hello all-

New to Android; very grateful for the help! I tried searching the web and other threads but the words "free", "ebook" and "library" return thousands of results that don't help.

Supposedly at my library you can get books in ebook form. The website says they are compatible with my PC, the Nook and the Sony devices. Is there a way to read these on the Android and if so, how is that accomplished?

Also, I read that you can read Google books on Android phones, but when I got to Opera on my phone and go to books.google.com/m and click on a book nothing happens.

Thanks again!

Download the file and use this to read it Aldiko Book Reader - Android app on AppBrain

Works fine on the stock browser. Not sure about Opera.

Thanks; I downloaded the app and I downloaded an ePub file from Google Books to my computer. I mounted my phone and copied over the ePub to a folder I created on the phone. When I go to Aldiko and click Import it says "No book found". Any advice?

Also, is there a way to see all files that are on my phone from the phone itself or only by mounting it?

Thanks!!

Aldiko can't import files unless you place them in the required place, not a folder of your own making. As the other poster already mentioned, I'd recommend installing Astro File Manager. Then connect your phone to your computer and drag the file you want (epub files only) into the eBooks/import folder. Once it is there, disconnect your usb cable and go to the Aldiko app. Click Menu and then Import, it will tell you to make sure the file you want is in the appropriate folder and then click OK It will then import the file into the program.

The first time I tried doing it, I didn't place it in the right folder, so I got the same message you did. The second time, I didn't disconnect it from the computer, so I still got the message. But once I corrected those two things, I was able to import the file just fine and I haven't had any trouble since.

Good luck!

Also remember that Opera makes browsing faster by sending the pages to their own servers first, compressing them and sending that data to your phone to view.

It makes browsing faster, but there are some websites that do not work this way. It its also why you cannot pinch zoom with Opera.
