So the other "techies" in my family all have the iphone and are waiting with baited breath for the new one.

Yesterday we're all together and we get into the topic of phones, which we always do. My brother in law starts talking about how he rarely puts the phone to his ear. When i asked him to explain what he meant he says, "between texting, meebo, facebook and twitter, I almost never make a phone, hence why when people ask, I can ALWAYS say that Att works for me because I never HAVE TO MAKE A PHONE CALL!!! :D" I thought it was hilarious.

Later in the day, my 6 year old nephew picks up my sister's iphone, turns it on and starts playing his favorite game. The same brother in law says, "this is why an iphone or any apple product, for that matter, will never be obsolete, bc people of all ages can pick it up, press the button and navigate and USE it, and you can't say that about your Android." I looked at him and said, "i have the same shiny icons on my screen too, it's not rocket science."

But I do have to admit, i am ridiculously jealous of their battery life and to an extent, his "ease of use" comment is valid, once you move beyond pressing on an icon to use an application.

I have a harder time using an Iphone because I'm used to Android and Iphone seems to be very straight forward about everything.
Although I know for a new user the iphone does everything much easier but that just really because it doesn't allow you so get off the path it has a set notion and you stay to it. No wondering

...However, we know that a 5 or 6 speed sports car is more fun and you get more out of it once you know how to drive it...
In real world everyday use however a small engined auto hatch can be even more fun than a sports car.

I think both the iPhone and Android phones have there place, the iPhone is probably the better all-round product objectively, but they'll often be an Android phone that'll do most of what the iPhone'll do, but in a subjectively better package for individual consumers.

Its the battery life that is most tempting. 6 hours of browsing over 3G is rediculous. I would be lucky to 3 hours with my Incredible.

Much of the iPhone's battery advantage comes from 2 things: restricted multitasking; and GSM technology.

We pay a price in battery life for having freedom and power - with things like multitasking and THE NETWORK. the ONE advantage that GSM has over CDMA is better battery life.

Every phone that has a CDMA and GSM model that I have seen, the GSM has an advantage in battery life; but the CDMA has an advantage in call quality and network quality.

Hoping to see vast improvement when LTE rolls out.

Is this a new show? "Are you smarter than a 6 yr old"

You could have had a lot of fun with this, instead of letting his fanboyism get to you. You should have showed him how well your DINC made calls. How you could swap batteries. I'd even go as far as blinding him with the dual flash camera. Come on man.

Omg, long post accidentally deleted.

I was basically stating that I haven't used an iPhone, but I have an iPod that's pretty okay. It plays songs and I've had it since '05. I then went on to say that it's nearly impossible to take songs off of it to copy onto your computer, and that I seriously can't figure out how to change a track name. I was about to point out the fact that Android is open source and has custom roms available. Are you kidding me? That's like the best thing.

I get 6 hours. I have never ran the batter down in 3. Maybe you use it harder than me, but I'll seriously sit down and be on 3G for 6 hours straight no problem. Possibly longer, I don't know. There have been days where I've hardly stopped (I"m not saying I get 16hours of non-stop 3g, but.. it's good.).

I'm pretty good at battery-management, though.

umm sorry but i have to disagree. i drive a manual sports car everyday and would never want a small engine econo-hatch

However a small TURBO-engine MANUAL hatch (i.e. Subi or MS3) is tons of fun :) I liked that better than my Z06 as a daily driver. You know that might be a bragging point for the Inc as well, sure it is a little smaller than the EVO or X, but that just makes it quicker and it handles better :)

Are you saying your can browse the internet on 3G for six hours or you are on 3G for six hours? When i am browsing over the 3G I can basically count 1% of battery drainage for every page I load. Stand by is great, but data crushes the battery. No shock of course, thats what is supposed to happen, it just seams that it drains faster on the Inc than I have ever witnessed.

I leave data on all the time. I'm saying that I can browse the internet on 3g for six hours before draining the battery. You got me doubting myself now, but, yeah, it generally takes about 6hours to drain the battery and I'm using 3g the whole time. I'm really doubting myself now, though. Lately I've been so busy with school (summerschool is lame...) that I haven't had as much time to work it.

To me it's not really "Inc vs iPhone" so much as "Android vs iPhoneOS" and that battle is just plain EASY. Android is the most advanced phone platform, period. It's more open, more versatile, more powerful, and just plain looks better.

A co-worker of mine always prattles on about his iPhone, and my usual response is "hey let me see your customized home screen" or I ask him if he's played Nintendo lately.

You and me both..During our "family day" yesterday, it was the point that I was pissed....when I had to PLUG IT IN TO CHARGE IT, in the middle of our discussions.

It's not restricted anymore and will still be 100 times better on battery.

I have a folder called games. Every time someone picks up my Dinc at work thats the first thing they navigate to :3
Mine too!! All 3 kids (6,8 and 10) can find the games with no problems, hence my defense at his comment! :D

You could have had a lot of fun with this, instead of letting his fanboyism get to you.
I did one better, i was watching the World Cup.....LIVE!!!!! all mouths dropped! :p

I've NEVER had a phone's battery as horrible as this before...it's one of the things i can't stand about this phone.

Went to a friends house recently and one of their kids, a little girl probably not more than 7yrs old wanted to see my phone, so I let her use it. Didn't seem to have too much of an issue figuring it out. If you can read, you can probably use any phone just fine. Her parents both have apple phones....
