Can the Hero last for 36 to 48 hours with low to moderate use?

I have read many threads on battery life related issues and many potential solutions. It seems that most people take the phone off the charger in the morning and plug in at night. Even still, the % reported at the end of the day don't sound encourging.

I didn't have my Hero long enough to accurately observe the battery life. I am now awaiting replacement.

So, can the Hero go 24, 36, maybe even 48 hours with low to moderate use? A few calls, some web, some amount of SMS, and so on.

If there is no data for that, what is your "end of day" battery % under _heavy_ use?

For me, I think if I shutdown GPS, WiFi and Mobile, then activated them as I needed it. Also, pushed the brightness down to 0, it "might" make it 36 hours.

Again, this is "for me". Currently, I get about 10 hours if I am lucky. I have WiFi turned off, I might try shutting down Locale and GPS to see if it gets better, but I use Locale all the time.

Some texting, emails and surfing (bio breaks) lasts me about 10 hours.

I text and gtalk all day. Make calls and play sudoku on the way home and i can say my phone last about 40 to 50 hours not cus its dying but i go to sleep and it around 30% by night two. Basically i can unplug at 5am on monday and by Wednesday afternoon my phone is screaming charge me please. But then again i hae excellent coverage. My brightness is a quarter up with no wifi pure sprint network.

I can get 36 hrs pretty easily with my normal use. Then again, I'm currently not actively using things like Locale that I have future plans to use. If I get 18 hours out of a phone I'm fine. Just get me from awake back to bed at night and I'm happy.

My sentiments exactly - just get me from awake, back to bed at night and I'm happy.

I used to think I needed to get 36-48 hours from my phone, but that was when I was using Blackberry - not as much going on with the Blackberry OS. I can definitely get over 36 hours, but I usually don't wait that long before charging. The last few days, I've been sitting at about 60% at the end of the day. Moderate use, with most of the services shut down - e.g. wifi, gps, bluetooth, etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I use an external charger with spare batteries, so I like to change the battery every morning.

I wanted to make sure that the phone can handle about 1.5 to 2 hours of conversation, ~200 sent/received SMS, and some web with power to spare for 24 hours.

Do you think this is reasonable?

No No No, You guys can get great battery life, with data and screen brightness on. Two thing i leave off all the time. Always on data......and....... Background data........
These two alone will kill your battery in just a few short hours. Turn these two features off and you will get many hours even days, with you data on an even with push email on. One trade off is manually updating weather and facebook app. Trust me i have had this phone since its launch and i went through all bad battery life issues everyone else is having.

What other apps have you noticed that need manual updating? Do you still get notified of new tweets? Do you use Locale? etc.

tweets still come in, you can configure it to manual or auto. Turning off these features my tweets still came in. I dont use locale, live in a small town no need.

One thing I noticed after turning off Background Data is that accessing the Market required me to turn it back on, and I'm assuming, I'll have to turn it back off when I'm done, correct? Is this the case for any app that requires you to turn BD back on for it to function? If so, don't you get sick of constantly turning it on and back off?

I never have to, the only thing that i need to turn it on for "is the Market"

If i left Backround data on i would be lucky to get 4-5 hours with very light use heavy use 2-3 hours. BD is a system hog when you turn it off it tells you to turn off to save battery.

My girl's Hero seems to be getting about 24 hours with light use, backlight on ~50% and background data enabled, she also has the twitter and facebook widgets updating hourly.

I, on the other hand, have background data off, auto-brightness on, no widgets pulling updates, from full charge ~6am I start getting into the 'orange' around 11pm. Of course, the phone never leaves my hand, so YMMV.

It's very dependent on your usage patterns.

It's very dependent on your usage patterns.

I use the same setup except i turn the auto brightness off. I would say we get about the same battery life. It has to be cdma 1600mhz sucking the battery out of these phones.

Always on/Settings/wireless controls/mobile network settings. Background Data/ settings/ data sync/google.

I'm confused. On the one hand you say to turn off "always on data" and "background data", but then you sa you get longer battery life even with data on. That being said, where in settings do I turn these features off? Also, do you still receive text messages with these turned off?

me too...that's why i threw my hands up and charge this thing throughout the day....

i just leave stuff on and use the phone how i need it..

Yes i do. Im really happy with my setup. If i used it in its stock state i wouldnt get through a days work with it.

if i dont use the internet on my phone i can get at least 24 hours battery on it. thats me just texting (50-60 texts) and some phone calls

Ok, I have done some testing and I can now say yes to this phone lasting for 2 days. I turned off WiFi and GPS, along with the Handcent and Twitter (peep) fix and after having it unplugged for 14 hours with texting, some internet, I was down to about 50% after 14 hours.

Not too bad, I didn't realize how bad the GPS sucked battery juice.
