Root Edit /etc/hosts

From a terminal app on the phone. It is the NAND lock that established when the phone booted. Cannot seem to get it back into adb again to push my edited hosts file.

Correct, you will not be able to make any changes to the root mount (aka '/' and all of the folders associated to it) with the current NAND lock. We expect that once unRevoked releases their utility that the root partition will be opened up to free editing.

Just to be clear, the unrevoked recovery installer will not make the system partition writable when not booted in recovery; to do that requires a custom hboot. It's been discussed, but there's disagreement on whether it's actually a good idea.
