selling my rooted HTC hero but few quesitons before i do

so im selling my phone and i want to reset my phone to the factory setting how i got it, what steps should i take to do this? i tried looking for a guide but i couldn't come across 1, im running FRESH 2.0 rom if it helps. thanks for the help again fellas
You can do what's called RUU.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA%20Hero%20ROMs

Scroll down to where it says RUU. Instructions should be available when you click on those links.
The first one will get you back to the way the hero was delivered before the update in Dec. The second one includes that update, and the third one is the 2.1. Hope this helps

You guys think the phone will be more valueable with a 1.5 RUU instead of 2.1? Reason I ask is you could Root 1.5 and run a 2.1 ROM, but still revert back to 1.5 for any reason you wanted.

I doubt it, as 2.1 has been rooted and there is a way to root even after the OTA has been applied. But you never know, I am always amazed what folks pay for things on ebay.

But is it also true that when you update to 2.1, there is no way ever to go back?
Back to 1.5? Hmm, not sure, but I was rooted, and running 2.1, then RUUd back to 1.5 to fix a problem.

There had been some discussion about not being able to back to 1.5, but I am not sure that is still true. Just don't know. With the ability to root 2.1, and install fast custom ROMs, why would someone want to go back to 1.5? Just my thoughts.

Correct, as of now if you are running the OFFICIAL 2.1, you cannot go back to 1.5

what happens if i just go to Menu>Privacy> factory reset data if i click on it will it brick my phone? will it bring it back to 1.5 or just back to 2.1 how i first started it

If you are running the official 2.1 it will reset it so it's "new out of the box." If you are rooted, it should still retain root access.

The 2.1 you were running was a custom ROM without the update Hboot, which is why you could RUU back to 1.5. :)

I have no intentions of EVER running the 2.1 RUU. I like having options!

Just to have the option. I guess, IMO it would be more "valuable" to me.

i wouldn't suggest using the RUU. i would suggest manually going back to stock... i just did it. i saved the original nandroid of stock - wiped, flashed, factory reset.... then i flashed stock recovery image. bam! you're done. the RUU will brick your phone. good luck or PM if you need these files. i'll be glad to save someone from getting the dreaded 110 error (if going to 1.5)....if you go to sprint 2.1 then you'll be fine, but the phone will be unrootable.

Wait, so you're saying I will be fine if I'm running a custom 2.1 rom and I use the RUU?

yes, as far as i know (and i've known a couple personally) who have flashed sprint 2.1 after being rooted and it went without hiccups. i personally haven't done it and would be happy to email my buddies who have and report back? otherwise, sell me your hero? hehe.

Ya ask them if it worked for them. I running DC 2.08 custom rom. Are you looking to buy a rooted Hero??
