Employer Discount, but I'm not an employee

A rep at the Sprint store said that because I work at Company A, and it's affiliated with Wells Fargo, I could get a big monthly discount with the purchase of an HTC EVO... the problem is, my company isn't affiliated with WF and we both know that.

Is he just trying to hook me up so he can get a commission (not that I care)? I just don't want to sign up then find out a few months later that I won't get the discount.

Call Sprint and ask them if your company has a discount. Don't take anything a salesperson says truthfully.

On a side note, if your company doesnt have a discount, you can usually get a discount for being a student. Or if you join a credit union, which is usually free, most (if not all) credit unions ususlly get 10-15% off. Better than nothing.

My ex company had a 25% off discount. I just called sprint and acted like I was checking to make sure the RS clerk set my discount up, because I didnt trust him. THey did their blah blah about no applied discount. I then just said, well im taking the phone back and canceling the service and blah blah then they gave it to me. Shady I know but I only quit a week before the phone came out so, oh well.

Go through the process of signing up with the discount (online or through sales). Remember the exact quote of the amount of discount they give you. Wait a week and call or chat online and question them about the discount. You make NO mention of the percentage of discount. You let them tell you (if it was actually inputted into the computer). If they tell you the correct discount that was quoted earlier then you are golden. If you tell you a different discount or no discount then just return the phone. Something shady is going on there.

the WF discount is 27%... just get it.. they are not going to take it out from your account.

be careful. They do audit (verify) accounts with employee discounts once-in-awhile. It's supposed to be removed when the person is no longer an employee there. Just like the military can no longer use the BX/PX even though they just separated last week.

how did you go about asking/getting the WF discount?
What info did they want for proof?

He originally told me my actual employer got the same percentage discount as WF. When I went to sign up, he said something like "and you're current employer is affiliated with WF, right?" I said no, and he said "we'll work something out." After getting the phone, he said I was signed up for the discount, told me the percentage, and said it was done - no problem. We'll see I guess.
