Root Some Minor Details?

Alright, so i just got a Behold 2 from a T-mobile rep. about 1.5 weeks ago, because my old phone (t929) had multiple errors. Anyway, i've been doing quite a bit of reading around the forum and have come to two conclusions.

1. I can Root & put a custom ROM like the Galaxy v12 ROM With or Without Touchwiz, on it.

OR

2. I can wait till *supposedly* the t939 is getting the 1.6 update or "Donut" In which case the phone will have TW.

So one thing I don't quite understand, If i root the Phone will I still be capable of getting the OTA Update "if it ever comes out for t939 (which it should)"

Okay! So yeah the question; should I wait to do anything? Or should I just go ahead with "fixing" the phone?
(If so, I really don't quite understand the process as a whole, I would like to think* i know how to do it, but some input of it would be great.

EDIT: Also I have a Macbook, and have heard that some of the steps differ for the mac.

I would just wait for the update, but if you want you can try out the other roms and you can always go back to stock. rooting only will not disable you from receiving the OTA update. If you put a galaxy rom on then yes you will not see the update. Thats because there is a special program the Samsung has thrown in there inorder for tmobile to update the phone. It is in alot of the TWz roms but not all.

Alright thanks! Okay, so since i'm not rooting it (at the moment) is there anyway to make my phone go alittle faster? I've seen Apps on the market like, the task killer apps; but is that safe, and do they work alright?

Yes they are safe, but contrary to popular belief they don't help much if at all. you'd have to understand how Linux works to understand why they are pointless. There really is no good way to speed up a stock behold2

That's really not true. MOST programs, assuming they're WELL WRITTEN, shouldn't use too many resources or battery life in the background. However, some programs DO use significant resources in the background, slowing things down and drawing power. Don't expect a massive improvement...but it really can help depending on what's running.

However, when your setting it up, remember that some apps need to run in the background (email, calendar, etc). And DON'T use it excessively, if it's constantly stopping/restarting programs you will waste a lot more power than you will save.

And I would DEFINITELY suggest you try an alternative launcher. This thread talks about some of the options... http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/93366-home-replacement.html

So you're saying that every single app on the market can run safely in the background? None of them downloads data constantly in the background, or doesn't sleep? Every developer uses best practices and completely understand RAM management for linux/android? The 14 year olds writing apps are meticulous in their debugging? None of the programs hang? Does even app that uses the processor while in background have an exit button?

If the answer to all those questions is yes, then taskillers are pointless/problematic. If not, then they can be helpful.

Also! now that we know Donut is coming (haha! that made it sound like it was new!), is there any hope for the BH2? A friend offered 115$ for it; and it seems like i'm stuck either way.

No...you can just go to the market and install adw (or something else).

Awesome! but for some reason, it's not showing up in the Android Market. Infact, none of them are, (panda, ADW, Home++) is that because of the 1.5 Android Market? (I do have install non-market apps applied.

Okay, so i didn't receive the OTA even though my behold really wanted it.
SO some questions.

1). Can I ODIN to the 1.6 on a mac? Because I noticed that ODIN is an .exe, so just wondering if there is any program or the like for a mac?
2). I realize that (as of now) the OTA hasn't been uploaded, should I wait till it comes up, or just go with the 1.6 early release that is already there?
