Root Timeline for ROM's??

Seeing as how I've never been through the whole root process for a phone before, (and understanding that unforeseen circumstances can change things), what is the ballpark expected length of time from when root is achieved to when custom ROM's begin being available? Would they attempt Froyo immediately? I'm assuming they wouldn't bother with Eclair since Froyo is available. What do you think?

From my Windows Mobile experience:

ROMs will come out fast and furious. The problem will generally be finding the right one. A great portion of them will will have lots of "eye candy" and functionality, at the expense of stability.

The trick will be finding the right bleeding edge ROM that balances "eye candy", functionality and reliability.

OK, this all makes sense. Thanks folks. I'm looking forward to it. Will hopefully root my replacement phone sometime after it gets here tomorrow. But I'm just looking forward to being able to SOMEHOW upgrade BT so I can use my keyboard. *sigh*

So, root has already been accomplished but now how long does recovery console and nand partition take to get ready to fly? Is this is a simple procedure or as or more difficult as root itself?

I just want plain ol' vanilla Android...nothing else. I'm ready to scrap the Sense UI, I don't use anything from it anymore.

Just give me basic Froyo and Im good. ;)

Totally agreed! I thought I'd love SenseUI but with all the addons that can simulate it, I don't really see the point in it anymore. Vanilla Froyo would give any options to make it what you want.

you'll be seeing new roms very soon from what i've gathered.

I REALLY hope so!!!! Can't wait, actually. :)

Considering the source code was just released today for froyo, it is doubtful that they would have a rom for it already.

True, but they're are devices that have been running leaked builds of froyo for a bit of time already. So while I agree with you, there is at least the possibility that it could be based on one of the leaked builds.
