Blocking our phone #??? Possible??

I searched forum for this topic and it seemed that all the info was related to blocking others from calling our EVO's. I however need to know if it's possible to block my EVO's #? I would prefer NOT to broadcast my # to anybody/everybody I need to call. Thanks for any input.

Did you try *67 before dialing? That worked for me to block my outgoing number.

as far as I know the only native option is to "send to voicemail" but not completely block someone's number. maybe there's an app for that but I could not find anything. free anyways

I have read here that it is possible to call Sprint and ask them to block your number. Again, just passing info that was posted on similar thread yesterday.

also you can sign up for google voice, and all outgoing calls can be set to call from either a random number, or from your google voice number.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I tried that back when I first started up service and at that time (haven't tried it since) all I got was a fast "busy" type signal.

No, I mean blocking my personal EVO # so businesses, or whoever I choose to block it from, cannot see my personal #. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. I guess this is one of the things I got spoiled on when using the iPhone. You can set it up in the software to block your personal # as you saw fit. Not having to worry about dialing *67 or permanently blocking it, which I'm guessing calling Sprint and asking them would block it "probably" for good unless you called them again and asked them to unblock it. Not the route that I personally would go with.

Thanks for your reply. Now this sounds like a pretty good choice that a person could opt for, as long as it was optional at the users discretion. You know not a pain in the butt to switch it on/off sort of thing.

It doesn't cost money, although now that I think about it, I do not think that Google Voice supports using the GV # on outgoing calls yet. I remember the other week seeing that. ***starts searching***

It does now. I have my phone set up to ask whether I want to use GV or not when I place a call. Just tested it and all's well.

Thanks for the reply. That's good information to have. I'll have to give this options some serious thougt then. Going over to google.com/voice right now to sign up for it. Thanks again.

You bet. There's quite a few options in there and other than very close friends and family, everyone else gets my GV number.

I have had my number (numbers - as i changed number periodicly) It is auto blocked as part of my Sprint Account. I admin, some techs see it and they didnt even know it was available. I assure you it is.

The only downside is, I have 2 numbers for most of my contacts with *82 in front as a 2nd number so when I call the, it is unblocked. I like to have it this way as I am a consultant and when I call, it shows up as private.

Ok, I gotta tell ya that I don't quite know what the heck to do over there. I cannot see any way to set up how to make it so my true EVO # is not shown when calling a person/business I don't want to have my #. Would you mind explaining how this service works, rather it costs more, how to set it up, etc...etc...I might be interested in the option if it is not something permanent/or something that I have to continually call sprint about.....you know, activate it, unactvate it, type stuff.


EDIT: Ok, no need for further explanation as I've contacted Sprint and asked them about it and decided to set it up on my line as well.

I've never seen a call from random number option in GV. Where would I find that?

Sorry, I should have said that option is configured in the app on the evo, I assumed you would load the pre-installed evo google voice app (called voice) and sign-up from the app, as when I posted that message, google voice was still not open to the public.

Thanks to all that replied with your suggestions. I opted to go with calling Sprint and setting up the blocking with them. I just have to dial *82 to make my # available to loved ones...etc. A big thanks to earlgsxbusa for that suggestion.
