Haptic Feedback is gone

Hello everyone,

My vibration feedback on keypressing is gone... I've done everything - hard reset, factory reset, soft reset, uninstalled taskkiller... even after factory reset I chose not to install my backup files - still no luck... any ideas?

Under the Phone Settings > Sound & Display > Phone Vibrate and Haptic feedback both checked as well as Phone Settings > Language & Keyboard > Touch Input > Text Input > Vibrate when typing...

It vibrates when I turn on the phone... it might(or might not) vibrate in Market when I do search(usually just for first two keys I press) also it might(or might not) vibrate when I have incoming calls... no it's not vibrating when I dial a number any more... So all this vibrating become very random...

What do you reckon? Do I need to exchange it?

install sound manager from the market and your haptic vibration will work again. This happened to me before and somebody suggested this and it worked for me. Just do the configuration in the sound manager especially with the vibration. Hope this will work for you

Installed Sound Manager from market, in Vibrate Settings I have 3 options for Ringer Settings and Notification Settings with both selected "Vibrate Whenever Possible" - still no luck or am I doing something wrong?

i don't know if this will help or if your unit is really defective, but in the vibrate settings of the sound manager i marked "vibrate only when silent" for both ringer settings and notification settings. I also put the vibrate widget on my screen and whenever i will put my phone in the vibrate mode it really vibrates for incoming calls and text messages and emails.

Have you done anything before it stops/starts working?

Well, I was typing and I accidently pressed a key twice in quickl succession. The first time it "buzzed" but the second did nothing... but then all key presses following made no vibrate. I went into some games that vibrate and still nothing.. I tried other things that would normally vibrate and nothing. I turned the phone off and still nothing.

I then went onto this forum, posted the message, and then tried again.. and it was fine. Oh odd... clearly software glitch as the motor that creates the vibrate would either be broken or not broken... will watch with interest.

I've had vibration disappear approximately 4/5 times, sometimes it's fixed with sound manager, sometimes a reboot, but the last two times I've had to pull the battery whilst the phone is on which has corrected the issue.

Each instance is usually a few days apart and I've even had it disappear mid sms message as in Truespin's case.

Yeah, seems totally random when it goes. I've done a factory reset so I am hoping that has fixed it. No problems yet.

It's just gone again. Did a factory RESET , still no vibration (either on input or vibrate only option), had to pull the battery whilst on again and then it came back.

Can't really see anything apart from an inbuilt software/hardware issue.

So disappointing ... logged a call with HTC but it'll be a 'return' issue no doubt.

Had same issue and HTC told me to sent it into repair. Instead I went back to Carphone Warehouse and I got a refund as this was my 4th handset.

This is my 5th in total, I can't imagine I'm gonna get much success now it's over a month old with them (I got it from CPW on an Orange contract).

I would suggest you contact head office first as i did. Use their website to submit and online complaint. I detailed everything, told them I had lost faith in the product and, within 20 mins, I had an e-mail telling me to take it back for a refund and that they had updated the notes on my account. Armed with this e-mail and the notes, the shop refunded without question

Mine was a PAYG phone though, not contract. That said, maybe they will let you get a different handset.

I loved the idea of the Desire, but 4 handsets is MAD! Your problem sounds exactly the same as mine. I think it must have been some low level driver error that, unfortuantly, no amount of factory resetting will fix.

If you have had your handset for over a month (and remember the month starts again if you get a replacement), bite the bullet and get it repaired... or just live without vibrate.
