Help lost SD card data after "updating profile"...

Updating Profile just refreshes your 3g/4g username on the Sprint network just like restarting your router or modem it does not touches your SD for anything, I just can't see the connection between one and the other. I do Profile Updates all day long on hundreds of devices and never seen this happened or even heard of it, and just in case that it is just with the EVO I will be doing it once an hour during the day see if I can replicate.

Again. One more who updated and lost nothing.

Launch day version 2

I have a launch day version 2 as well.

Another thing that my phone is doing, is it sometimes just charges when I plug into a PC even though I have the setting checked to ask me. I have to completely reboot the phone in order for it to start prompting again. I had to do this just now because when I went to plug in to back up so I can try the profile again, it wouldn't connect to the PC.

Interesting...

Did HTC Update: Everything there
Did PRL Update: Everything there
Did Firmware Update: Everything there
Did Profile Update: Everything still there

So what happened last time!? I got the SD card update the day I picked up the phone...and I only did the PRL and profile last time when I lost everything.

You should see a USB indication on the top left corner of the screen (the Notification area). Drag down the notification area and the press the "USB charging" message. It should then allow you to change it. It usually goes right into charging if your phone is in sleep mode.

this thread is highly misleading. ive been doing this on the PRO1 the PRO2, the hero and now the EVO. i have updated profile/prl and never to this day had this issue the OP describes. as discussed earlier in this thread, these items do not touch your SD card in any way. its all done under the hood. the OP has other issues and needs to do further testing...

I don't always see that. When I don't, that's when I need to reboot otherwise I'll never be able to connect to the PC. When I do see it, everything works fine.

Sorry for the misleading title. I posted in the troubleshooting forum with a different thread and then after someone else reported the issue after doing the same thing then that's when I made this thread. It was caused by doing the same exact thing, so it's hard to imagine 'it's my phone'. Could it be the SD card? Absolutely. I haven't been able to replicate the issue though.

This is my second Evo. The first one I received, I immediately updated everything; PRL, profile, firmware, HTC updates, etc. There were no issues. I exchanged it for a new one because the Sprint store I bought my first one from sold me a barely used phone (it was used and returned within one day) since they were out of stock. A few days later, they called me and asked if I wanted to exchange it for a brand new one as their shipment of new phones came in. I said, "Sure, why not?" I exchanged my phone for the new one, and sure enough after 2 days of use, the screen is separating and light is leaking from under the home button. Both phones, btw, are build 003. Day 5 (yesterday) I decided to update everything as I forgot to do so when I exchanged for my new phone, and afterwards immediately decided to change the wallpaper. The wallpapers were taking forever to load, so I went into gallery instead. They still took forever. I went into Astro to look for the pictures manually, and they weren't showing up. Finding this strange, I mounted my sd card and looked for the pictures finding all but 20 pictures remaining from the 200 I previously had, and none of my videos. Not only that, but the new phone came with several more defects. Whenever I plug my phone into the computer, it immediately mounts sd card, which is ANNOYING as hell when I'm watching something or flipping through pictures or doing anything involving using the contents of my sd card only to get interrupted to unmount, even though the default is always set to "Charge Only". I don't even unselect and reselect "Charge Only" to unmount, I just slide down the notification bar and press "Done" and it unmounts. I'm using a 16 gb sd card that I had previously used on my Nexus One. It has an EXT-4 partition as well that I never formatted. I don't know if that information helps, but if anyone can figure this out, +1 internets to you

so I think i figured out what went wrong. it may actually not have anything to do with updating the PRL or profile. first, I figured out why my phone kept auto mounting the SD card; it was because the app doubletwist that kept auto mounting despite defaults. Also, I think the reason why my media disappeared but not my music is because doubletwist acts just like itunes in that it auto-syncs whenever you plug it in. I added a bunch of my wallpapers last night and they disappeared again tonight, so I'm suspecting its doubletwist. I uninstalled doubletwist and I'm going to re-add a bunch of photos and videos when I get home. I'll report back to see I that resolved the issue.
