Yay. I have the Galaxy S and it is everything I thought it would be. In fact, I'm writing this using swype right now. It's very good.

Pleased by the camera, internet, mail, threaded conversations, it's just so intuitive and a joy to use, unlike the n97.

Downloaded some apps and looking forward to having a good play with it tomorrow. Haven't noticed any major issues yet.

Trying to work out the best easy of doing my contacts to selectively link my facebook contacts

Peace

Ok, but give me some time to get to grips with it first and do it justice. First impression though, it is everything they told you it would be.

Memory still a bit concerning, but it seems to be working Ok.

100 Meg a min for HD video, so 10 min a Gig, 80 min on 8 Gig... Roughly

Truly the only thing Im a bit worried about is the double security sticker on the box, with the one underneath already looking a little cut from a previous opening exercise.

Perfect condition though. Can't fault it.

Does anyone else have one security sticker on top of the other?

I'm sure I read that after a few niggles with the Singapore issued handsets, the unissued ones were updated with a software fix, this would mean a second security sticker.
It also accounts for the delay in supplying handsets to europe.

Here are my thoughts so far then.

Cracking phone. You instantly see the quality of the screen. The system appears so far to be rock solid, but time will tell.

Call quality excellent. I live in a bit a 2G blackspot as it is however, and the phone sometimes reports no signal when I can actually just about make calls.

Lack of flash does not appear to affect pictures too badly.

HiDef Video Recording will take around 100 Meg a minute.

Yes, the phone does occasionally go on a go slow from time to time - usually in a response to the phone being new and you being overexcited. It tidies itself up after a while. Android seems to keep programs open for a while - presumably to make frequent used programs fasted to load. This is too overstated however.

Screen is crystal clear.

Battery consumption, 100% fully charged this morning at 7. 7 hours later at 2pm, Im down to 60%

So that's about 3hr 30m per 20%. But I probably have been overusing it recently.

Feels good in the hand, comfortable to hold.Yes the back is a finger print magnet. But hey, live with it. You're using a touch screen phone.

Does it have any dust under the screen? This seems to be a common issue with modern fans and has been a problem with a previous Samsung model, and a few other Android phones which were mainly made by HTC.
I don't have any dust under my screen, nor have I heard anyone that has had that problem on any message board I've visited so that doesn't seem to be an issue with this phone.

For me at the moment, after more than just a few hours testing, I'm beginning to regret my purchase. Not that it isn't an awesome phone, but there are just a couple of little niggles.

Gps on my handset appears faulty. my ytracks keeps bouncing around.apparently at one point, I was doing 14kmh. I was only walking. Its not just limited to the application.

A gps signal tracker and compass, never shows me walking in a straight line. Three direction is always bouncing. Google maps, version 4 and three new one from the market, my tracks, and yet another gps tracker, bounces me periodically up and down the high street. therefore the phone its useless for navigation, and useless for exercise.

Could just be a problem with my handset, but I see a few people with the same issues.

Barry life is rubbish. Yes, I may be hammering it while testing gps, but three and a half hours and I've used 45% battery? I was thinking about using this phone down the gym with the great headphones and r the excellent sound quality, but how much battery will I be using? Will I have anything left for the evening? How many features do I have to turn off to have a phone that only needs charging at night.

If you can't use the features, why are ttery there?

Finally lag? The phone seriously lags in menus and things like email unless you keep shutting applications down.

The only thing I'm really concerned about, us the gps.

I haven't had any of the problems you have, although I haven't used the GPS that extensively. I've had my location being shown accurately, the battery lasts 30+ hours and I don't have any lag in the menus.

There does seem to be a few that have some problems and I do know that there are leaked firmwares that seem to improve the GPS and remove lag for those that have tried them. The firmware also includes the Swedish version of Swype, which means that it should be the firmware that has been promised to come soon. As I don't have any problems I'm waiting for the official relese which hopefully should come soon, and hopefully remove your problems.

Got mine yesterday :) I am not disappointed.

Mine had 2 also.

I fully charged it then let it run empty with quite heavy usage. I got around 18 hours from it.

one question ... can you see missed call and unread sms info on the lock screen ?

Yes.

Does it have any dust under the screen? This seems to be a common issue with modern fans and has been a problem with a previous Samsung model, and a few other Android phones which were mainly made by HTC.

No dust on mine :)

So with most of you now having the Galaxy S for a week or more now, has this phone been everything you have expected it to be, or have some of you been left somewhat underwhelmed?

Your thoughts please..

It's a very good phone. I was looking for a phone to replace my N900 and this is the first one i've found that has the functionality i need. I really would recommend a task killer though :)

I have the same version.

Thanks.

Interesting to note others responses.

Wonder if I have a faulty unit then?

For getting 30+ hours, what don't you do on your phone?

Do you have any of the following activated:

3G
Bluetooth
WiFi
Daily briefing
Facebook/Twitter

Would you be able to download something like MyTracks and just do a quick test, to see what the compass arrow does and whether your position constantly jumps around?

Cheers

I'm not sure about all things that can cause such differences but one thing can of course be a flawed flash of the phone.

As for my usage:
I always have 3G on (no GSM service on my carrier) and I'm in a place with just OK coverage.
Not using WiFi at all.
Not using daily briefing but I have sync active on the apps that use it.
Not using Facebook, Twitter or any such services.

I've done a GPS Test, as well as tested my location in Google Maps and Navigon. I've gotten a bit varied results in GPS Test but my location and direction was correct when I tried that. It never jumped around. Still I'm sure the GPS connection could be even better so I'm tempted to flash to the new firmware.

As for My Tracks I read about someone that got worse results in that than a different app (forgot which) so it could be worth trying out another app to see if it's still flawed.
