Root is the system unlocked now? can we modify the system while booted?

can we modify the system while the phone is booted now that we have the unrevoked recovery flash tool?

Well lets not jump to conclusion, there may be other ways of accessing it. Lets try em each out and see if any of them work.

My understanding is that NAND is still locked while the phone is booted... Seems like this will be an easier way to get into recovery and have ADB running all the time... Where before you had to hit the race condition...

For anybody who doesn't know, to modify the system do this:

power off
plug in usb cable
hold volume down+power
volume down once to select recovery and then hit power
now you should be at the clockworkmod recovery menu
select "partitions menu"
select "mount /system"

on your computer, click start, run, and then type "cmd" and hit enter to get a dos prompt

go to the sdk\tools directory and type adb shell

This wasn't obvious to me so maybe it will help someone else out. Thanks crimton!

I did.. Prior to doing that, when I did adb shell, I would get a # shell, but nothing was in /system (no app directory?). Let me try again without applying the update and I'll see what I get now.

Yep, you're right crimton. This explains why /system/ was empty for me.. Running the update worked, but I'm sure that mounting /system is the better way to go. Edited my post.

Crimton is right, just mount /system and then you can delete whatever by doing "adb shell", cd /system/app, and then rm whatever .apk you want.

I'm guessing that when I applied the update, it just ran the update.zip that was on my sdcard from when I originally rooted my phone. A mount probably happens at some point in that process which is why it did the trick. I updated my original post to show the mounts steps.

Oh nice so we can just mount the system partition and go from there instead of having to mess with the sd card insertion thing from now on, sounds good to me.

/sbin/rm is in the path so it is what is run if one simply types "rm". When I look at /sbin/rm it is a link to "busybox".

/system/bin/rm is a link to "toolbox".

Do you know what the difference between the two is? (no idea here)

no i'm not very familiar with linux and commands, i just go on what i find
