Anyone here unsatisfied?

Is anyone here unsatisfied with their Evo? I get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I hyped this phone up so much for myself, but in some ways, it feels like it just falls short. Often times the screen will freeze up randomly for almost a minute, the battery problems, by now I'm sure many of us know that the video quality is crap compared to the iPhone, and some other little problems...

Has anyone here taken there's back yet? I've still got a little bit of time left... I'm considering it.

The only thing is, I'm wondering if all smartphones are like this. This is my first smartphone, a big jump from my old generic flip-phone. I'm wondering if some of these glitchy slow-downs are existent on all smartphones, or just the Evo?

What are our thoughts?

Oh one thing- could the lock ups be caused still by the Task Killer? When I first got the phone I downloaded it and used it often, but I learned that it was the causes of many of the problems I was having. I've had it uninstalled for probably a little over two weeks now, and the problems slowly went away. Except, still, every now and again it will freeze up. Could that still be from ATK? Or should that all be good by now?

If this is your FIRST smartphone and you're THIS dissatisfied, I doubt you'll do better with a lesser phone. Most of what is currently out there is "lesser" than the EVO by the way.

So other smartphones are worse? Don't get me wrong, when it works, I love it. And it works for the vast majority of the time, too. But when it freezes up or locks up, it's annoying as hell.

If this is the best it gets, I wouldn't ever trade in- I've had my taste of smartphones and I can never go back now.

Ive had no issues whatsoever, I do know what youre feeling though, this is my first smartphone too, and reading all the gripes on here kinda makes you think hmmm is this a bad phone? but the people in this forum buy new smartphones like every month and complain about that one then go to the next. they like some more than others but gripe about all of them. I just wont fall for the b.s.

What I'm saying is the EVO represents the latest in smartphone technology. Not only that, but there are always "issues" with first runs of phones, cars, even washing detergents. But that's why Sprint gives 30 days to return. If you feel like its not for you, find something that is.

But for my money the EVO on Sprint is FAR better than an iPhone on AT&T or a [insert phone model] on a [insert carrier] network. And this is coming from a guy who has used smartphones since 1999 starting with the Blackberry 850. :D

I think for $199, I would be able to deal with the issues. But for $449, I am on the fence. But I kinda shot myself in the foot by selling my Hero & Pre, so I would still have to buy another sprint phone at full price. Was thinking the blackberry 9650 or touch pro 2 till either the evo gets fixed or something better comes out.

Perhaps you should return the EVO and try the Droid X?

1) what makes you think the droidx will be free from issues
2) its not being released till the middle of next month which is likely outside sprints 30 day return window, so he couldnt just 'try' it and stick with his current one
3) are you going to be hanging out here much now? i see i might have unintentionally lured you over with my droidx thread. no biggy if you arent a hater :)

Totally satisfied! Long-time smartphone & PDA user. Best one I have ever had, bar none. Performs exactly as I expected based on extensive pre-purchase research of other Android and WebOS devices. Unequivocal recommendation for anybody who wants all their personal data and access to the internet at large in their pocket. Probably overkill for someone who merely chats on the phone or sends texts.

I'm letting him know that there is another option. I never stated that the Droid X will be free from issues. Nobody knows if it will be and knowing electronics... nothing's perfect. If he had another phone that he could go back to, he could use that and wait to TRY TRY TRY out the Droid X. I'm not a hater at all. :) I'm very excited to be getting the Droid X. There's no reason for me to hate a device from Sprint.

Had an light leakage issue with my pre ordered (jun 4) evo. Returned it a couple of days ago.

so today I'm a best buy and doing something else and find... 'yes we do have EVO's in stock'. Okay let me see one that the screen looks good on, you guessed it, found what I wanted and this one is perfect. No light leakage at all.

It's the best phone out there, if you can afford the plan, buy the phone, imho :)

I've got that, too. I could go to Radio Shack and get a replacement? Assuming they have one in stock, of course?

So far, there is only two things I'm disappointed with..

1) Video chat is horrible in my experience, bad picture quality, laggy, etc..

2) Lack of quality case options .. Seidio.. and then thats about it.

Other than these two things, I love the phone.

*EDIT- Another thing that has been a blessing since switching from the iPhone & AT&T is the fact I never drop calls anymore and Android customization is a lovely thing.

PI love this phone. Period. Might I suggest you go over to Swype | Text Input for Screens and give that a look see? It's really awesome and as far as I know, only on Android. I can type almost as fast on my phone with it as I do on my computer. Back to the phone. I have occasional slow downs, but guess what? My custom built desktop computer with a top notch processor, video card, dual hard drives in a fast raid array, and 6 gigs of ram All while running on a 64 bit OS. IT OCCASIONALLY SLOWS down. What computer doesn't? Does it detract from my experience so much as to impact the experience? NO WAY! ! ! NOT EVEN CLOSE! ! ! This phone is awesome. Awesome. I've barely turned on my computer since I got it. This phone is, in my opinion, much much better than an iphone. As far as video quality goes, yeah, i was a little disappointed. But I've had 2 cheap digital video recorders that use memory cards, and its about on par with those. So I probably wasn't as disappointed as you. You have to spend at least as much as you spent on the phone to get a decent, I mean decent - not good, digital video recorder. A good quality one will run you hundreds, can easily be thousands. So, taken in context, its good. And I did a couple tweaks and can get 15 hours out of my phone. Just read a post I wrote. No one gets that much life out of their Iphone, not if they are actually using it. I get that much with constant web surfing. Constant. On top of never ending txt, some phone calls, and light gaming. But mostly surfing. I don't know how to link to my post, or I would. But maybe you can search my name or something. Heck, the battery on this thing lasts four times as long as my laptop. And, as a pleasant surprise, Sprint service where I live is faster and more reliable than what I had. That was the biggest one for me. What good is a cell phone with crap service? I had AT&T for 2 years and I'm soooo glad I switched. Soooo glad. Plus, stick with this phone for a bit and soon the new version of Android will be out for our phones. It has a 2 to 5 times speed improvement. And I'm pretty sure some bugs will be fixed in that update. Anyway, I LOVE THIS PHONE. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! ! !

I'm lucky where my issues have only been slight and self fixed (battery, difficulty figuring out how to get videos to play). Otherwise it has meet, if not exceeded, my expectations. It's funny because while I never owned a Iphone, I do own a Ipod touch and used to think it was the greatest thing in the world. Now I am completely unimpressed by it to the point that I am almost turned off.

I do like the phone but I have a small list of gripes that I feel would have made this phone great...

1. The onscreen keyboard... there is too much unused space when you look at the keyboard closer, and also I feel like the directional keys should not be there at all. I keep wanting to hold my finger down to see the little magnifying glass and select my place in the sentence I want to edit.

2. Why can't I hold down the directional buttons to scroll back or forward through a sentence I just typed?

3. The battery could be better but it's okay after the way I have it set up.

4. The compression on 720p video is too much and doesn't look at all the way it could or should.

5. I pay $10/month for 4G service that isn't even in my state.

6. $30/month is too much for mobile hotspot

7. I'm on my second unit now with light leakage with a third potentially on the way tomorrow once customer care calls me back.

8. The 30fps cap is really stupid and want to taken off without having to sacrifice functionality of other things on the phone.

And that's all I can think of right now.

I came over from an iToy, and I assure you all that the voice quality on the EVO is MUCH MUCH MUCH better.....all of my friends remind me every time they talk to me while I use the EVO as opposed to the iToy.

Aside from that, I am satisfied at the power and capability, but I'm really pissed about the battery life. I've done ALL of the "tricks" and it gets worse and worse. Oh, and now my light-bleed is worsening and the corner is more loose. I have a feeling I will be calling Radio Shacks every day until they have a replacement in stock.

Thank God for Titanium Backup!

But, I'm still happy with the phone and I'm sure after an exchange or two, all will be fine. Maybe I can score a HW 004!!
