I finally got it rooted...I tried for several days now....
tried every possible method.

Then earlier, I finally decided to drive to wal mart to pick up the
2GB PNY Card. I thought my phone had something wrong with it...
I was soooo frustrated.

I followed the 10 minute video and rooted my phone on the very next try!!!

The key difference for me was the PNY 2GB Class 2 MicroSD card.
I can't explain why it worked, but it just did.

FOR THOSE THAT ARE STILL STRUGGLING....do what I did.
Go buy the card and your misery is over.

Have wireless tethering set up. Pretty sweet...

I wouldn't suggest buying anything unless you are really desperate. You can do it with the stock card that comes with the DINC (well, that's assuming you were lucky to get a card with it). Just wait 5 seconds after the white screen to pop the card in the device and it should work (key moment is right as it switches from white to black screen).

i guess i was desperate enough...Wasted too much time and abused my phone more
than I'd like to...

Yeah, I was doing the same but kept with it. I took a few days off and would try again when rooting, took a while but it paid off. I just tried again to get into the recovery mode properly and couldn't even do that so who knows....I just got lucky.

EDIT: $10 is a lot of money for me right now, hence my reservations ;)

after you root, don't u still need the card to access root again to delete apps and what not? Or once you get in and install SU, there's another way to do it?

you can change cards once finished... i just copied everything from the rooted SD to the other.. everything works fine

BUT...if you want to get into adb recovery AGAIN, you are going to need that PNY card again. Your card that wouldnt work for so many tries that you copied to files over too still will not work for getting you into adb. I know this because I tried this too. I wanted back in to remove some system apps and had to switch sd cards again to get back in.
