If you're going to install a custom rom, you don't need root. Follow the steps on post #34 to install clockwork. The correct file link for internal sd card process is there.
You can then install the custom rom of ur choice. Don't forget to wipe data/factory reset and clear the cache.

Yeah, CM7 aint ready for the tablet. I have Vegan 5.1.1. It's a froyo base and it's super smooth. TnT lite and Zpad would be my next two options but honestly, after Vegan I have yet to turn back to any other ROM. My next ROM will definitely be Honeycomb when it comes out.

What makes you think this? You should be able to flash a backup or new rom as long as you can get into recovery. Did you do a back up before flashing the first time?

Are you unzipping the file first? If so, don't, you need a zip file to flash the rom.
As far as the usb, you have to select to use as a disk drive. There is a notification up top, tap on that if the notification does not pop up automatically and select to connect to computer.
Personally, I would stay with VEGAn, I found it much better than TnT.

no i am not unzipping i do the same process i use for flashing roms on my phone on the tab i go into clockwork recovery and the zip file isn't there... i know its on my root according to the file ifile mgr...
and i know about how to mount the usb but when i plug in the usb i dont even get the option to mount the sd card... its like the tab is not recognising the fact that it is pluged in...
i like vegan but no mater what launcher i use i cant find the settings for it anywhere in the settings or the app so i am switching to see if i can customise it some were else maybe ...
so yeah that's what's going on... any ideas gentlemen ???

First things first, if you can boot into Recovery, I wouldn't consider your gtablet messed up beyond repair.
Did you back up your ROM? I hope you had a backup file before trying to install Tnt.
As for launcher settings in the Vegan tab, it's kind of odd you can't get into it. Hitting the menu button while your on your homepage should show you the settings options for the launcher. At least it does on my gtablet when I use ADW EX and launcher pro.
For your CWM/TnT question, I think when you download Tnt 4.2, it is in a Rar format. If it's still in RAR, then CWM wouldn't see it as a valid zip file. You'll need to extract the update.zip that in the RAR file. This should be applicable for TnT 4.2 and the supplement files. Roebeet uploads his files as Rars. I think that's his preference.
ok cool so i found the launcher settings and i took my sd card out and CWM found the update.ZIP haha but all this is still not fixing the fact that the gtab is not registering that it is being plugged into a computer there for the internal memory is unmountable

We're still talking about CWM, right?
Here's the steps I use to mount internal memory via CWM
Boot into clockwork
Scroll down to Mounts and Storage
Plug my gtab to the computer
Scroll down to mount usb mass storage (I think that's it, its the last option down)
This should enable you to view the files in your internal memory also known as sdcard1.

You will have to return it to stock to send it back. The instructions are on XDA, I will see if I can find them later or maybe Solid or XMR know where to find them.

Awww that sucks. You might have a bum USB. You're mounting it through the Mini USB on the gtablet, right? I don't mean to insult but I was just checking.
Hi, I know this is off-topic...but I'm developing an Android App and attempting to test on the Viewsonic gTablet. I'm developing the app in Flash and it needs Adobe Air to run...However, when I attempt to download Adobe Air from the Android Market...I get a 'incompatible with this device' comment and I am prevented from installing...
Can anyone shed some light on this for me...
,Thanks
tekstuf
i could care less about CWM i am sending it back to amazon they wont know the difference lol ... but ill see and i think it is a bum usb ... the people at viewsonic dont even know if they can fix it ... they fail at life
when i press power and vol + it installs cvm. I deleted the files and rebooted it but it continue's to try and install cvm. Any suggestions?
Then that means, cvm didn't install. If you press power and vol +, it should take to you to cvm menu. If it didn't, then you still have the stock recovery. Which CVM file did you use?
MASSIVE UPDATE to the original post today. i tried to eliminate unnecessary steps and simplify as much as possible. no more Z4root, no more "optional" clockworkMod.

1. install ClockworkMod Recovery with the instructions in posts #34(external SD card) or #35(internal SD card) of this thread.
It seems that you inadvertently swapped the links for the external and internal SD cards: post #34 is for the internal SD card and post #35 for the external one.
This is great info! Thanks so much for compiling it. I'm going to pick up a gTablet from Craig's List on Thursday ($275, with a carbon fiber skin, screen protector, two AC adapters and a Malata docking station---not a bad deal!), and I'm excited to install the various custom ROMs to see which one I like the best. These instructions are invaluable for a beginner with Android tablets like me!

I followed your instructions exactly, loading VEGAn on a new stock G tab. I know nothing about rooting, ROMs, etc. but am comfortable moving files from one device to another. I was immediately successful. Thank you for making this easy for us newbies!

Okay people...I just went with the gTablet an have been reading up on the forum, I am assuming this is the most current updated ROM fix, flash, apps etc. I'm getting ready to jump off and am a little leary. I have had my tab about 3 days and am pretty happy so far, it seems like VEGAn, CWM, is the way to go, I was just wondering if this is still the best most current fix, it seems so as the sticky was updated the 3_09_11...any last minute advice??

Solid, just revamped his first post with instructions on how to load a custom rom.
Couple of updates, there's a newer version of flash instead of 10.1 it's 10.2. I haven't really had the time to mess with it yet. The one linked on the first post is flash 10.1 which I believe works really well with the gtablet already. As for the ROMS itself, I think they are pretty current except for TnT lite 5.0. That's new but there's a special way to install that ROM. So tread carefully.
Oh and one last piece of advice.....if you need help or having any questions...just ask here or search this thread. We're willing to help.
Guys, much thanks for all of the info here. I got my gtab yesterday and installed Clockworkmod and VEGAn today. I was really leery of doing this until I found this forum, GREAT WORK!!!!!!

Okay followed the O.P.'s instructions for installing Clockwork without rooting and worked like a charm...CW recovery installed and backed up...
one question I just thought of is regarding installing CW without actually rooting, and therefore without SuperUser....won't I have to have SuperUser on my tab if I want to download those "root only" apps like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, etc.?
I have CW recovery but have not loaded a custom ROM yet....wondering if I should go ahead and root in order to be able to use the above-mentioned apps....
UPDATE: Okay I may have just answered my own question...installing the custom ROM should actually create the "root" and give me SuperUser....if anyone can confirm I would appreciate...
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Yes, installing the custom ROM gives Root and SuperUser app....
and thanks to SolidOrange for the post and info....very informative!

I didn't have any problems flashing VEGAn, however when I try to open the market, it just flashes and returns to the menu. I have flashed it twice and have the same results. I haven't found anyone with the same problem. Any ideas to fix this.

Alright, I just flashed CM7 and the market does the same exact thing. I am really stumped.
