So before I discovered exactly why my battery was being caned constantly (Messages app for SMS) I ordered an extended 2200mAH battery (with matching back cover) for £11.99 delivered.
It's here, and fitted, and now I have a phone which will run for days on end
It is a bit bulkier, but I get a bit paranoid about running out of juice (call me a saddo).
I wish they made one that doesn't make the phone bigger!
The phone must look huge with that back cover.
It's not too bad really. Feels smaller than my N95-8Gb.
I think all phone manufacturers should realise that percieved or real battery life problems can kill a phone/brand reputation. Just give us 10000 mAH batteries as standard
My battery life on the Hero easily lasts me a day of decent use if I'm clever about it. I'll probably wait til theres better alternatives on the market. Maybe some batteries that are the same size but more capacity in the near future?
I like the sleekness of the Hero too much.
EDIT: Maybe you could post some pics of the size difference?

you right.
I would do the same.
At the moment i have 2 HTC hero batteries.
If1st one runs out pop in the second one.. u good to go and leave the 2nd one at charge in the car or at home using docking station.. thats the best solution at the moment.
Thats too much work for me, my hero doesn't run out of charge so its not really an issue for me, though better battery life would be great.
The stock battery is 1350mah, I've already seen 1700mah batteries the same size. Its just a matter of time before we can put in a better battery.
I wonder if HTC would ever release a better battery?

Take a look at Powermat on Amazon -
The Powermat people told me they will have a back for the HTC Hero in January.
All you do to charge the phone is to place the phone on a mat. No plugging it in, and when you go out, just pick it up and put it in your pocket.
I will have one at home and one on my desk in the office - they also do a portable version that folds up really small. £69.95 (£10 more for the portable) and the back for the phone will be £29.95. Great convenience and you won't need the larger battery.
Hi you mention that you've seen 1700mah batteries for the HTC Hero at the same size as the original. I've got a UK Hero and have just bought a 1750mah battery from Seidio which is 4mm too big (the US version of the handset takes a 1500mah battery, while the European version takes a 1350mah). Can you elaborate on where you've seen these 1700 batts? If they're the same size as the original then this is exactly what I need.
Mine is a Euro model (non-Sprint) with standard 1350mah battery. I have seen people selling 1500mah battery for the Sprint model. Can my Hero use this?
Device(s): HTC Hero - Villainrom 13,
HTC Desire HD - Villainrom HD 2.0.1

By the looks of it i'm not the only one who's battery dies really quickly. I've tried the app power manager pro, but that seems to disable itself after a while. I've now knocked off 3g to try to improve the battery life. Is there anything i can do to improve the battery life?
It was charged up fully this morning. by 5pm it was low. :S Though admitedly i've had a couple of phone calls, recieved numerous emails & a bit of browsing online.

any widgets running on any of the screens? I uninstalled the BBC news app and I'm getting more than 5 extra hours from the battery
