I carry my phone in my pocket by itself and I am generally very careful with it. I understand that the Hero has glass screen which should be pretty scratch resistant but I was wondering if I should get some screen protectors on it anyway. Do you guys use protectors?
I have not needed a screen protector, I have had my Hero for 2 months and still no scratches. I do have a gel case as I dropped my phone after 1 week and smashed the screen to pieces so bought a case to go on the replacement.
I'd say no had mine since August and its not got a mark on it. I think its made from some new material they stole from a UFO. I'd definitely buy a gel case you can hardly tell they're on and it will stop you crying you drop it.
This is the one that I have, fits perfectly and I barely notice it is there. It does its job well as I dropped my phone last week and no scratches, no smashed screen so worth the £10.

I can confirm this is an exceptional case, I have it too. I use this in conunction with a set of cheapo screen protectors I got from ebay, shipped in from china i think. I have screen protectors for all my handheld devices as you cant tell it is there, and it gives me that extra bit of security just in case.

I have a black HTC Hero with the chin.
Thanks!
I've got the HTC screen protector on mine. You dont notice its there, and based on how scratched my Touch Diamond was after 6 months use Im glad I've had this on from day one.....
I think I'm gonna get some screen protectors but not a case. I love the rubbery feeling of the case too much to cover it up! If it gets scratched up a little I can just buy a replacement battery cover instead.
I'm gonna miss how easy it is to wipe the mirror on glass though... with a screen protector it's harder to get the grime off with your shirt :/

To be honest I would get a case as well. Yes the Teflon coating it nice and doesn't pick up any finger marks but I think over the life of the phone you will drop it at least once. Once you have tried a rubber skin on the Hero you won't go back to having no skin on your phone as it makes the phone so much more 'grippy' compared to the Teflon alone. I don't think my Hero will ever slip out of my hand now with the rubber skin on, but when I take the skin off sometimes the Teflon feels so slippy its unreal.
About quality of skins. I did get two off ebay that were £3 each. I luckily got two for free because the guy sent me out two clear ones and I wanted black ones, so he refunded me. But, the cheapo ones off ebay aren't perfect. With both the ones I received the rubber that goes down the left side of the phone near the screen is saggy. They are both like that too. If you've got the money I would definitely invest in a Flexishield skin for £10.
I got two screen protectors from advancedaccessoriesltd off ebay for £1.64 which are decent. They are fiddly to put on so view some youtube vids first. I messed up my first one but got my second on 90%, although its still slighty mis-aligned so I may buy two more. Don't use the provided screen wipe that comes with them as It tended to leave a load of bits on the screen that only came apparent when I applied the screen protector. Use a clean spectacle cloth and use a credit card to push out the bubbles when you apply the protector.
