Default USB problem. How to make the phone back to Cupcake before RMA?

Hi
The USB port on my Hero seems to be broken. I can only charge the battery in the usb port.
"Removable disk" - and "HTC Sync" mode won't work anymore!
To transfer data to the phone i need to take the micro-sd card out and plug it innto the computers card.reader.
So I will RMA it soon. My phone is rooted. But thats no problem. I have downloaded the officiall HTC Android 1.5 (have also tried with officiall 2.1), and installed it from the bootlader (power-button + home-button). So the phone is now unrooted and running android 1.5.
But I still have the wrong bootloader! How can i get the stock bootloader when i cant connect the phone to my computer in HTC sync-mode?

Edit: sorry for my bad english

I'm not familiar with an RMA; are you using a Sprint/CDMA Hero?

Right ok, googled it and I see RMA basically means you're getting an exchange.

Well you can either install 1.5 using a PC (not using any fancy bootloader tricks) or use a program like flashrec to restore the original image (although I'm not sure where you could find those).

1. I can't connect the phone to my computer.
2. Can't find the orginale recovery image...

Hmm, well what's your build number? (You can find it in Settings >> About Phone).

Maybe we can extract the recovery image from an .exe like you can the actual ROM.

Shuld I just try to use the warranty, without removing the custom bootloader, to get my usb problem fixed?

How about putting your memory card into a memory card reader, plugging it into a computer and getting the old cupcake rom onto the memory card that way?

You can then put the card back into the phone, and flash from zip like usual.

But does that install the recovery menu too? Or only the firmware?

His OP made it sound like he had already done what you recommend and it hadn't installed the recovery menu.

Yeah, sorry. I've just re-read the original post and realised what I'd typed would be of no help at all!
