It is impossible to back up all of my sms with an app (i have over 50k sms) so how can i manually take them off of my phone and put them back on the phone when i flash a new rom?

From what I have heard, I thought the hero (and the SMS app in particular) became unusable once your SMS count got into several thousand.

it not unusable...just laggy sometimes...but yes i have over (26578) messages in handscent just from one person!

I use SMS Backup and Restore. Works a charm every time. Look for it in the Market.

I use MyBackup Pro. It's a paid app but its worth it for stuff like this.

But... 50k texts??!?!? Ouch.
IIRC there was an app somewhere that converted SMSs into a text document, so that you could move them onto a PC or somesuch. Cant remember what it was called though, so that's helpful of me.

There's also an app that uploads your SMS messages to google for you.

They essentially become email conversations between you and your google contacts, so it's not exactly what you asked for. But at least it would give your poor phone a break :P

My Fiance's hero is unusable at 8000. Handcent works though. I can't believe even in the official 2.1, there was no sms /mms limit setting as there was on the Desire's 2.1 message app.
