Default Probkem with HTC HERO ROOT - Armon Recovery

Hi, I try make a root on my HTC Hero GSM and instal cyanogenMod ROM.

I use this tutorial:

How To: Install CyanogenMod 6 Android 2.2 Froyo On HTC Dream G1

1. First I format my sd card.
2. Than I try instal Armon Recovery with this instruction from (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_HTC_Hero_%28GSM%29):

  1. Download the latest version of Amon Ra Recovery (1.7.0.1).
  2. Rename Amon_Ra's Recovery Image to simply recovery.img & move it to the Android SDK Tools folder.
  3. Toggle on USB Debugging (Settings » Applications » Development). Power off the HTC Hero.
  4. Boot into bootloader mo
  5. Connect the HTC Hero to the computer.
  6. On the computer, open the command prompt/terminal & navigate to the Android SDK Tools folder.
  7. Type in the following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  8. Amon_Ra's Recovery should now be installed on the HTC Hero.
I have this problem, if I wrote in cmd this command:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

I get this error:

C:\Program Files\adb>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (3972 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)

What is wrong? I am newbie in Android World. First I use google but I don’t know how solve this problem.

Thank for help.

You have to have root access before you can install a new recovery. See the Rooting Guide for a couple of easy-to-follow methods.

I try use ROM Manager, and use Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

I try used this instruction:
  1. Search for ROM Manager in the Market (free or paid) and install the app.
  2. Open the ROM Manager application and choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
  3. Click on your device HTC Hero [unverified] and then you may need to give the app root permission if it prompts you. If it does prompt for Superuser access, make sure Remember or Always is selected before you choose Allow.
  4. If it hangs after that and freezes up, just allow the app to Force Close. Then open it back up and repeat steps 2 & 3.
  5. If the flash was successful a dialog box should pop up saying "Successfully flashed ClockworkMod recovery!". Press OK.

But I get error:

An error occurred while attemting to run privilaged commands!

Also I try make a root with recovery flash and I get this error:

Backup Failed: Could not run command.

The errors are due to you not having root access - you must root to enable installation of the recovery.

What is the build number displayed in Settings/About phone? Knowing that will help us advise you better.
