alright so i wanted to find out what the big deal with this rooting thing was.
so i did...
anyways, i rooted my Htc hero (Canada Telus GSM hero) from the stock 2.1 update to the FROYO 2.2 villianrom.
I played around with it liked a few of the changes but missed alot of the old things with the stock rom.

incase your wondering i am a total noob at this stuff and need guidence from intelligent people.

i used to root my phone: universal androot, rom manager, terminal emulator.

so i went to my linda file manager to install "universal androot" fine and dandy it installed. however, when i went to the unroot option is said "you device is not rooted!" i was like WTF!

i just really want to know how to get back to the stock 2.1 update on my phone, and recover it. Problem is I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START.

I have looked over the internet but again i came late into the game and dont know half of what people are talking about.

(ALSO! i do not want to end up with a bricked phone as i am in a place where i can not replace it easily, i heard that if you "FLASH" your phone twice that it may brick it) is there any truth to that?

lastly, if i do recover the phone and get it back to stock form, if i decide i did like FROYO 2.2 better. Can i still go about getting it or whats the deal there.

please i need someones help with this, maybe shine a light into better solutions.

You can flash the hero as many times as you like. You just have to make sure you're flashing the right files

What you're describing is easily done. However, would you rather switch to a custom 2.1 firmware? It would be exactly the same as the stock 2.1, but with all the extra root features you're used to (like apps2sd, overclocking etc). There's also custom versions of 2.2 with sense (i.e. it will resemble the stock 2.1 firmware), although they aren't completely stable.

You could go back to stock 2.1. and it would be possible to switch back to froyo. But you could go with custom 2.1 (which is better) and would make it easier to switch back to froyo if you wanted.
