I've got a custom ROM and I've got it already, I've had it for a while actually. I still had it when I switched ROMs too. I wish I didn't switch now though, the new one doesn't like my phone.
I'm running 2.2 now but I think I was on 2.1 before I switched ROMs. My friends have been on 2.2 longer than me but they still don't have it. Not sure why sorry.
Tbh you're not missing anything. The 'new look' is okay on a 3.7" (or larger) display but I prefer the 'old' one on the Hero as it's more space-efficient. Hopefully mine will never update itself.

Plus I'd much rather have the 24 hour return period than the 15 minutes the new market gives you.

Still aghast at this. I know some developers were getting screwed because people were using their app for a day then getting a refund, but... 15 minutes? Sure thats enough time to figure out that a fart app isnt really worth £3.99, but is it really long enough to determine if, say, a satnav app is any good or not?

15 minute refund time?! Wow. I guess it's because of the raft of trial versions that are available, meaning you should be able to test pretty much all the features by the time you decide to buy the app.
Maybe they should scale the refund times based on the price though. So anything under £1 gets 15 minutes but a £5ish app gets you 24 hours to test and decide. It's a compromise that means the cheaper developers don't get screwed over, but also means that more costly apps that need a thorough testing can get it.
The new market is a tad slower as well, I flashed tasty froyo and I liked that it had the old market but it was a bit buggy so I went back to VR12 which brought me back to new market V_V

Not all apps have trial versions though, e.g. copilot live. I probably wouldnt have splashed out 25 quid on it if i hadnt known i could get a refund after trying out on a proper journey. So, yeah, this could be actually hurting developers.
And of course 15 mins is still long enough for the morally challenged among us to back up the app and get a refund.

Or let developers choose. I'd like to imagine that if a developer has confidence in the long term usefulness of their product they'd leave the refund time at 24 hours..... heh, yeah, right.
