Flashed this to show off to my iPhone 4 rival that my phone could run latest version of android but I keep getting black screens or invisible screens. For instance, if I run it for a while, holding the power button and waiting for the options to come up is useless cause the thing is invisble. Same goes for any pop up options like trying to add widgets. Maybe it's just my phone can't handle it :/
Device(s): 1:Motorola Atrix (stock)
2: Monte Carlo/ZTE Skate (rooted)
(HTC Hero & San Francisco/ZTE Blade)

That will be 'The Bug' elelinux talks about it in post 2 and a number of posts within the long thread.
Go to post 1 under options download 'Patch for v2.0 if you got invisible menu etc..'
As before, a full wipe (factory reset) is recommended by the dev for this one. I've had it running here for a few hours and have noticed no problems. APNs were configured correctly, data, wireless and GPS all function correctly, no wake issues with 19/691MHz clock settings.
or is my rom still 2.3.4 but the display just says 2.3.3?
Yes. The 3D-Maps update overwrites the build.prop file and replaces the ro.modversion and ro.build.version.release entries with the ones you're seeing.
The Following User Says Thank You to Slug For This Useful Post:
Changed default kernel to Las_Venturas-0.4.3 Thanks to riemer
Lots of updates, included gps
Fix for display brightness
ADB debugg icon work with Las_Venturas
Added Swedish translation to AndroidTerminal (pushed to cm-source but not merged yet)
Correcting some misspelling (Swedish)
Some new camera settings (pushed to cm-source)
Removed AicBootFix
Added the phone.apk with call_ui settings again
TIP
Settings for Las_venturas kernel
Govenor = Ondemand
Frequency = 264/576MHz, With these settings the camera works without problems.
Have been using this kernel for over a week now, is incredibly happy with it, all apps is faster yes everything actually,
Riemer should have all the praise he can get, well done. (It's only one bug I found usb tethering is not working, but look for some solution)
Hero kernel-12a is available for download as an option if you do not want Las_Venturas-0.4.3
----- I've had this release runningfor a couple of days and have found no issues. If coming from v2.1 then wiping cache + dalvik-cache before flashing v2.2 is perfectly safe - no need for a full wipe.p.s. @RemArcs: Maps3D-update has been updated and doesn't mess up the Android Version string.
Dammit, Elelinux has updated it AGAIN! On my way to d/l and test v2.3 now.... no rest for the wicked.
p.s. I've found the camera functioning erratically with the new kernel. Flashing the 2.3.4-compatible HeroKernel fixed that. Hopefully a bit more development time will see Las Venturas perfected.
Ohhh ok sorry I took what you said totally out of context. I thought you were talking about 2.1 and 2.3 in terms of android versions, not elelinux's version numbers. Sorry
None at all.... what error message (if any) are you getting?
Non of them are appearing in the market though. Tried quite a few apps. Also tried installing from the web market but it says that my phone isn't compatible.
Another problem I'm having is with the SD partition. I've set to to 32+512+remainder yet my phones internal memory is still the same, I thought the portion should have led to he phone thinking there's an extra 512mb's of internal storage.

This rom is kinda sorta sluggish/unstable for me and I get a lot of LauncherPro reboots when I press home button, idk if this belongs here but what's the next best thing to this rom? Froyo-wise I mean.
Can you give me a couple of examples and I'll check with my own Hero, running 7.1.0-Hero-v2.4.

That's normal. The EXT partition is symlinked, so the OS still thinks it's installing to /data but in reality the files go to /sd-ext. Total space will still be indicated as before, but available space will decrease much less rapidly due to apps being installed to the EXT partition. I'm showing 166MB/154MB, but according to Root Explorer there's 47.87MB in /sd-ext. Titanium Backup confirms this by saying a2sd is using 50MB.

Tried enabling Menu/Settings/CyanogenMod settings/Performance/Lock home in memory?
Ok, after a couple of days of this rom, I've realized what I've been missing out on, CM settings. I wish the CM settings on this could be on a froyo rom. Particularly the ones for the music playback options in the notification bar and also, being able to change songs with volume rocker...it rocks.
If a froyo rom had that, like Villain 2.2 AOSP rom, with that speed I'd have the perfect Hero. Can't have it all I guess, this rom is sluggish at times like scrolling between homescreens and running apps like my Gun simulator app, which works flawlessly on 2.1 roms, but force closes almost everytime on this one.
Also, there's an update. I'll try it right now and see if it makes any noticeable differences.
After countless updates and improvements, the Elelinux-Hero story has reached the final chapter. Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 Android 2.3.7 will be the final GB ROM released by Esa for the HTC Hero.
There is some good news though. He's stated his intention to resume development on the Hero when the ICS source becomes available. Yup, you read that correctly.... we may see Android 4.0 on our beloved (and supposedly obsolete) Heros some day soon.
